The Duchess and the Devil - Chapter 94.1
That night Judith had terrible trouble sleeping, but for a completely unexpected reason. She kept remembering the moment of their kiss and meeting. It was something amazing. There was no longer any point in living like a recluse. And the Duchess’s heart filled with heat from meeting Derrick.
And although she had not slept all night, today she felt much better than ever. During a visit from the maid, who arrived earlier than usual, Judith sat up.
– Lady, are you awake?
For some reason the girl was acting a little strange.
– Something happened?
“I think you should come down and take a look.”
Judith, going down to the mansion’s hall early in the morning, was shocked. Dozens of boxes were stacked in the spacious room. Before checking even one, the maid decided to find the Duchess.
– Good morning, Lady.
– What is all this?
– These are your gifts that arrived today.
– This? To me? From whom?
– They are from Duke Mexillion.
After a clear explanation from the maids, Judith walked closer to the drawers and opened one of them. There were fresh vegetables inside. In another there is meat, and in the third there are various types of exotic fruits. The Duke sent a huge amount of tasty and healthy food, which filled the entire hall. Then Judith remembered what Derrick said about eating right and her losing weight.
As she was looking at the endless boxes, someone suddenly approached her. A man in a neat uniform and glasses bowed politely:
– Milady, nice to meet you. My name is Nocturne. I am Duke Mexillion’s assistant.
Judith wondered if this man was a demon. So she narrowed her eyes without even realizing it. However, the man did not attach much importance to this, smiled and handed something to the Duchess.
— This is the letter that the Duke asked to be delivered.
The envelope had the same rose embroidered on it as the recent invitation. Judith unfolded it and laughed involuntarily as she read the contents. For the first time in a long time, the Duchess behaved so lively and active, which shocked all the maids around.
Nocturne left the mansion only after making sure that all the boxes were delivered safely. Later that evening, the chef, busy preparing the ingredients, began to use all the contents of the boxes in earnest.
“Lady, the chef said he was going to cook dinner from the ingredients he delivered.” Do you want to try?
And the Duchess, having washed herself, agreed. She used to have difficulty eating. And even when experiencing terrible hunger, Judith often spat out the entire contents into a basin under the bed.
After a while the maid came with a tray. The food displayed on it looked very tasty, as if the cook had been working on it for a long time. There were so many types of appetizers and desserts that Judith couldn’t decide what to start with first. The Duchess swallowed and clutched her fork. She carefully cut the lamb fillet and put it in her mouth.
Finally, Judith pursed her lips and stood up from her chair. The maid, who was looking at her with concern, immediately held out the bucket. An unpleasant sound echoed through the bedroom.
– I’ll bring something else!
And although the Duchess tried to say that there was no need for this, the maid had already run out of the bedroom. She didn’t even have time to open her mouth. But the feeling of disgust gradually subsided.
– What is this?
As Judith wiped her wet lips, her body suddenly turned around as someone grabbed her shoulders. The shocked girl saw a demon appear out of nowhere.
– Derrick?
– Why are you doing it?
Not long ago, the Duchess was alone in the bedroom, but now her husband stood in front of her, dressed in the same black suit as yesterday. Judith closed her eyes as if she were seeing a mirage and took a step back, suppressing another urge to feel sick.
– How… No, when did you come?
– Answer me first. Why can’t you eat normally? – Derrick asked, not even intending to answer his wife’s question.
And the demon held Judith so tightly that she could not escape from this tenacious grip. Therefore there was no way out.
“I feel sick all the time,” she said with a sigh.
– And how long does this last?
– It’s been quite a long time.
– That’s why you lost so much weight…
His sharp gaze swept from neck to ankles. He was so clingy that Judith felt as if she was standing there in a complete negligee, even though she was wearing a dress. Now the duchess wanted to hide somewhere.
