Chapter 214: Because I Like Shu Nuan (18)
Shun Nuan reached out and took the packaged rice cake. The man behind her seemed to have regained his composure as he reached out and took the package from her hands. His voice still had a hint of chill in it, as he said, “I will hold this.”
Shu Nuan hesitated for a moment and said, “That… I haven’t finished it yet. Give it to me.”
He raised his eyebrows and glanced at her, before returning the opened pack of rice cake to her.
On the way, Shun Nuan kept munching on the snack, but after a while, she couldn’t help but look at him.
From beginning to end, he’d looked ahead. He didn’t look at her, didn’t speak to her, and was indifferent to approach.
Finally, Shu Nuan called out to him.
“A’Che.”
Hearing this, he paused, looked at her, and slowly said, “Go home.”
Shun Nu lowered her head and said, “I thought you were dead.”
Jing Che looked down at the little girl beside him and said, “Did not die.”
Of course, he didn’t mention all the challenges he’d had to overcome to keep his life.
Shu Nuan nodded while taking another bite of the rice cake. Her nose was a bit sour.
She remembered that if she hadn’t been chased by enemies in the palace, A’Che wouldn’t have fallen off the cliff trying to save her.
He didn’t die, but he was still the same as before and refused to tell her all the bad things.
After returning to the Heng Mnaor, Shu Nuan found out how A’Che got to know that she was in Beichuan…
Ah’Qi stood on a tree. Upon hearing the footsteps of their return, it fluttered down and began to shriek.
When Chen Bo saw that A’Che had also returned, he was in tears. He was seeing them reunited after years.
He was going to make a delicious meal for them.
Waiting for Shu Nuan to settle down, Jing Che reached out and held her right hand. Shu Nuan frowned from the pain.
Jing Che narrowed his eyes but said nothing.
When he let go of her, Shu Nuan pulled her hand back. She frowned slightly and said, “Chen Bo may have told you that it’s serious. My hand has slowly healed.”
Jing Che pursed his thin lips without a word. He stared at her for a long time, and finally said slowly, “I failed to protect you.”
After the Qing Kingdom’s demise, he’d looked for her but hadn’t found anything.
He presumed that she’d died in that battlefield.
He hadn’t found out that she was alive and suffering in the heart of the enemy kingdom.
Shu Nuan knew that A’Che had protected her since her childhood, but when she heard this, she still felt a bit reluctant.
“It has nothing to do with you…”
Jing Che pursed his thin lips, said nothing, and turned to go out.
He made Chen Bo leave the kitchen and prepared a warm meal by himself.
Ah’Qi quickly shrieked again and flew out of the house.
Xuan Jiu was returning to the manor after finishing the tasks assigned to him by Shu Nuan.
He gave an elated shout upon seeing his friend.
“Ah’Qi! Ah’Qi!”
The eagle circled around the boy’s head, who reached out and said, “Come down! Let me see… Are you hurt?”
The eagle came down and stood on his hand. Xuan Jiu carefully looked over it and turned its wings to make sure that it was not injured.
“It’s okay. You scared me. I-I thought you were lost…”
Xuan Jiu whispered to Ah’Qi and brought it into the yard. When he entered, Cheng Bo smiled and greeted him.
Xuan Jiu smiled with white teeth, and said, “Chen Bo, is there some good news?”
“A’Che is back!”
Xuan Jiu was stunned. His face lit up with joy as he quickly followed Chen Bo’s instructions to find A’Che in the kitchen.
