Chapter 213: Because I Like Shu Nuan (17)
Shu Nuan went to several blacksmiths to inquire about the market situation. Several famous blacksmiths in Beichuan had decades of experience and knew Nuan well. They all knew that Beichuan had been her fief in the past. But the most important point was unknown to even her.
After the Qing Kingdom was destroyed, the Nanchao Kingdom recovered Beichuan but did not disturb its people. Therefore, with Shu Nuan returning to Beichuan and saying that she wanted to develop the trade, many people raised their hands in support, laying the foundation for Shu Nuan’s business in human resources.
Shu Nuan had a sense of direction in her heart, and yet she did not become impatient because of this. She went back to the manor and made a detailed plan. The next day she went to the town to investigate. She wanted to find a suitable place that would make a good shop front.
Although this matter wasn’t impossible, it wasn’t easy either. Shu Nuan and Xuan Jiu ran around for a day and found only one or two good strategic points.
At noon, they didn’t have time to go back to the manor, so they ordered two bowls of wonton from a stall. Shu Nuan listened to Xuan Jiu dictating the pros and cons of the locations they’d narrowed down for the main branch. After listening for a while, she gave her opinion.
“I think it’s better to be close to Longmen Street. When people from other places enter the city, they must first pass through Longmen Street, which can help our reputation to a certain extent.”
“I think so too.”
“Then the location is decided. We’ll go and take it down later.”
Shu Nuan wasn’t using chopsticks to eat. She couldn’t hold chopsticks very well in her left hand, and she eats slowly, so she takes a small bite of a spoon and sends it to her mouth.
Xuan Jiu seemed to think of something and said, “Princess, why don’t you go back to rest soon. I will handle the transfer of the deeds. The doctor said that due to the cold weather today you should stay indoors. Your right hand isn’t fully healed yet. You have to be careful if you want to drop the disease root.”
Shu Nuan ate her hot soup with her eyes drooping. After a while, she uttered a nasal “umm”, not wanting to tax her body forcefully.
However, she planned to go shopping for snacks before returning to the manor.
Therefore, after leaving Xuan Jiu, Shu Nuan went to the street to buy a few snacks and packed them. Without looking on the road, she opened a small packet of rice cakes and took a small bite.
She recalled that Xuan Jiu also liked to eat that snack, so she told the street vendor between bites to pack another serving.
The owner who sold the rice cakes was an old man who recognized her identity. Knowing that the Qing Kingdom had fallen, he hadn’t called her princess, but he still kindly packed more rice cakes for her.
“Pack me a rice cake as well.”
The voice was mellow, making for good ambience, with a hint of a chill.
Shu Nuan stiffened slightly, and she turned around and looked up.
The man standing behind her was tall and straight, wearing a black royal dress with pale gold stripes and a black sable collar, which framed his clear and handsome face. His brows were entwined in a frown, making people think of him as a little cold.
Time seemed to take away only a few traces of his youth. Everything else was the same as Shu Nuan recalled.
She looked at him for a long time in silence.
He stared back at Shun Nuan.
It was the stall owner that broke the silence between the two.
Shun Nuan reached out and took the packaged rice cake. The man behind her seemed to have regained his composure as he reached out and took the package from her hands. His voice still had a hint of chill in it, as he said, “I will hold this.”
