Master Meow - Chapter 64
Chapter 64: Before Raining, a Shadow Rolled
The trees inside this forest had been growing for so many years, so they were even more gigantic compared to those which grew outside the forest. Although the distance between each tree was also much smaller, right now, Wells had still passed through in between them swiftly.
He had already smelled it. There was one more thing out there, and its scent was even more obvious than the other things that they had found.
This forest is located in the north, near the Northern Mountains. Further forward, the terrain gradually became steeper and steeper, forming the mountain’s slope, which was more dangerous than the forest below.
She could sense the leaves brushing against her body from time to time, but she could only hold onto the giant cat tightly.
“Kacha, boom!”
The thunder roared above them as if it was going to rain.
“Stop looking for it. Let’s go back first!” Lu Qiu yelled to Wells.
But he’s almost there, finding it. And seeing how happy and concerned Lu Qiu was when she saw those strange things, Wells knew right away that these things were very important to her. So, he has to find it before the rain comes. Once it rains, the smell would fade, and it would be very difficult to find the item.
Wells increased his speed. He ignored her yelling as if he didn’t hear it.
Boom!
The thunder grew louder as if a bolt of lightning had struck a place not far from them.
The forest was getting darker and darker with the wind blowing against the leaves on top of their heads. The animals were all busy returning to their nests, making the once peaceful forest chaotic.
Wells gave out a sudden roar. Lu Qiu raised her head and saw a huge and deep valley ahead, and found that they had already crossed the mountain without her realizing it. When all of a sudden, a ball-like animal fell off a tree and rolled down the valley at such a high speed.
The forest was too dark for Lu Qiu to see things clearly, so she could only guess that it might be a hedgehog or a pangolin*. However, the animal was obviously a furry one, and its color was a little black. So, it shouldn’t be a hedgehog or pangolin1.
By this time, the two of them had now reached the end of the forest with Wells standing at the edge of the valley. Looking down, he saw that the furry animal had already rolled all the way to the bottom, where a lot of bare bamboos were lying. And looking up, it could be seen that the other side of the valley was entirely covered with thick and firm bamboos— it was a great bamboo forest.
The hint of smell came from the bottom of the valley. It ought to be buried under a bamboo pole. However, when Wells was about to start off and jump down, another dark shadow fell from the tree again.
He stepped aside to dodge, and the shadow fell onto the ground. It stopped for a while before it began to struggle.
This one wasn’t that large, only about two meters in height. Perhaps, it was still a little cub who hadn’t fully grown up yet. Its hair was still covered with gray hair, and this gray layer was covered with dirty mud. Who knew how long it had not been washed?
For Wells, who washed his face and hands every day, he didn’t want to touch this animal at all.
The cub struggled on the ground for a moment, then rolled two more times as if he could only roll and not walk, making Wells frown even more.
At last, Lu Qiu could finally see the animal clearly. After seeing its appearance, she couldn’t help letting out a high-pitched scream.
Oh my gosh, this is a wild panda!
A live, real, giant panda!
Lu Qiu climbed down from Wells’ back without any second thought intending to touch the giant panda cub. However, she suddenly gave up halfway through.
Just looking at the panda’s cuteness is already enough, I should not be greedy.
Although it was still a cub, it has strong combat power– absolutely not weak at all. Its strength was more than enough to kill her with just one slap. It was too dangerous to go down. She shouldn’t be deceived by its appearance.
She then laid back on Wells’ back again, holding her face with her hands while staring at the panda cub with her twinkling eyes. She watched as it walked two steps and rolled three steps, and kept muttering “how cute, how cute”.
Wells needed not to turn around to know what she was doing, and this had suddenly made him a little depressed.
How can his pet like this weak, dirty, ugly cub?
She had been watching the panda cub rolling for a long time now. It was rolling further and further in the opposite direction of the valley. If they couldn’t go back, they would most likely get separated from their mothers.
Wells squinted his eyes and stepped back. Afterward, he mercilessly extended out his paw and kicked the poor cub’s butt.
Ack.
The cub whined and grunted as it quickly rolled along the hillside, but a moment later, its pace quickened as if it’s rolling as fast as the speed of light.
Lu Qiu: “???”
