Chapter 63: Searching for Lu Qiu’s Things (2)

Lu Qiu jumped down from the cat’s back and brushed the fallen leaves away to look at the traces present on the ground.

Looking at it carefully, she found traces of dried blood and a hideous mess of leaf fragments that were trampled down. Then, Lu Qiu slowly looked at the direction where the wolves came.

Not far from their place, there was a huge fallen tree. She grabbed its bark and tried to climb up when unexpectedly, she saw a red brown insect with the size of a fist queuing up to climb.

Lu Qiu’s scalp turned numb. She immediately released her grip and retreated. After that, she then rubbed both of her hands hard as if wiping off something extremely dirty.

It’s still daytime now and the giant cat was here right next to her, so she wasn’t really that afraid to move. After comforting herself for a while, she noticed that the insects were still standing in a line, and some of them were even carrying some fruits on their back. Looking at their familiar set-up, she couldn’t help but observe them carefully for a moment.

These insects resembled how ants looked. They have two antennas on their head, thin waist, and long legs. If they are not ants, then what are they?

The ants here were as big as her fists. She immediately remembered that back when she was barely awake, leaning against a tree trunk, she was surrounded by some insects. Those insects ought to be these ants.

Wells eventually saw the ants too, so he came over and swept them down with his paw.

The ant that he touched quickly turned around and raised its two pincers to clamp his paw. These reddish brown ants were different from the black ones. They were fierce and got two sharp pincers on their mouths, just like a crayfish.

Although Wells was pinched, he didn’t feel any pain and simply shook the ant’s antenna away.

Lu Qiu prevented him from playing with the poor ants as she climbed to his back.

She hung her head, looking a little dejected because she really didn’t know where to go.

Wells released the ants then nudged her side with his head.

Before they left, Wells sniffed the scent on this place, and then leaped forward.

Ruth had told him that the pet showed up here suddenly out of nowhere and that she didn’t belong to any tribes. In that case, what does she want to do after coming back to this place? It doesn’t look like she’s trying to save someone. Perhaps, is she looking for something?

Following the scent, Wells soon flew towards the outer area of the forest. In there, a collapsed giant rock with some large iron cages inside it could be seen.

It seems like this was the place where Pickley had lived before, but after his death, no one here had ever cleaned up this place.

Wells sniffed once again. There was a strong smell of the little pet. But it was peculiar. It was like flowers –sweet and fragrant, but it wouldn’t make him feel choked.

Wells sniffed around once again. His little pet’s scent was pretty strong inside this place, but somehow, it was a little peculiar; like flowers— sweet and fragrant but stuffy.

Lu Qiu was still unconscious when she was taken to the cave, so she had no idea about her brief stay here. She watched in doubt as the giant cat started to pick and pull the rocks, clearing up the cave that had collapsed.

It seemed that some animals had lived in this cave before as there were a lot of deformed iron cages and peeled animal furs lying around.

Wells kicked these things aside and pulled out two pieces of ragged clothes in the corner.

As soon as he picked the clothes up, Lu Qiu immediately recognized them as the one she had worn on the day she transmigrated.

Afterward, she unhesitatingly slid down from the giant cat’s back. She didn’t even care when the pieces of broken rocks had pierced her soles; she persistently went forward and hugged the two pieces of clothes in her arms.

The clothes were so dirty and broken that it was practically impossible to sew the ripped portions back together.

So, this was actually the giant wolf’s house, and the giant could actually locate it just by using his sense of smell.

Lu Qiu then turned around and looked at him with sparkling eyes.

The giant cat definitely could help her find her bag!

She dashed towards the giant cat, meowing and rubbing against him with all her might.

It seems that animals, regardless of being cats, dogs, leopards, lions, or tigers, would rub against each other like this to express their intimacy and affection.

Lu Qiu had now adapted quite well on how to act coquettishly, like a little pet being fed, in front of the giant cat.

Wells blinked his eyes. She’s fawning on himself and acting so coquettishly just to win his favor, right? But he still can’t help feeling happy!

Lu Qiu then immediately returned to the giant cat’s back. After she settled down, Wells turned his body and changed his direction. Then once again, they flew back to the forest.

This time, it took them a little longer to travel. And after a few days had passed, the remaining scent in the air became less and less prominent.

Wells circled a few areas for a while before spotting a huge gray bird, with spots and mottles on its belly and tail, perched on the treetop. Although it resembled a bird, it was actually more like a chicken.

It was a hazel grouse. They live on trees like a bird and could withstand the cold.

Since this forest was under the hazel grouses’ territory, Wells stepped forward to ask a few questions. Then, the hazel grouse flapped its wings and pointed towards the path they should follow.

After Lu Qiu saw the bird, she remembered the giant bird who ate the huge centipede that night. At that time, it was so dark, and she couldn’t see the pattern clearly. However, looking at it, it seems like it should be this kind of bird.

And after a few more small turns, Wells soon found the correct location all by himself. He finally stopped under a tree.

He then stretched out his claws and began to brush off the leaves below them.

Lu Qiu carefully looked at her surroundings. This tree doesn’t seem to be the one she saw when she first transmigrated.

But this thought soon dissipated when one of the things she had been looking for had suddenly appeared from the pile of leaves that the giant cat was brushing off.

It was a small card full of scratch traces and cracks, making its original form to be almost unrecognizable.

This piece of ATM card from ICBC1, which she had always brought with her wherever she goes because it was convenient, was now rendered useless in this world.

Wells took two steps forward, dug up the soil a bit more, shook off a few worms, and pulled another card out from the ground. This card was relatively intact as there were only a few scratches and bite marks on it. Aside from that, the profile picture on its front was completely preserved.

He looked at the picture, which looked strikingly similar to the little pet. Apparently, the technology used for taking this image was rather outdated compared to the shooting and filming technology they had nowadays. Thus, the picture was static; it wasn’t moving.

This is an ID card.

Lu Qiu went down from the giant cat’s back and took her ID card. Looking at the familiar characters and ID card number on it, Lu Qiu’s nose became a little sour.

These two cards would never be used again. She could never return.

She carefully wiped the dirt off these cards and tightly held them in her palms.

The bag, indeed, crossed over here with her. It was such a pity that she had found it too late, and was found by other animals first. Now, all the things inside it were thrown out, and she has no idea where they could have scattered.

I’m afraid that it would be too difficult to gather them back together.

After half a day of searching around, Wells successfully helped her find the torn tissues, an unscrewed lipstick that was smeared all over the tree, one bent key from her bunch of keys, and an umbrella, which was hanging on a tree in tatters.

Unfortunately, the mobile phone was nowhere to be found even after searching for so long, so Lu Qiu had now lost all hope finding it.

It was now past noon, but a lot of clouds had gathered in the sky, hiding the sun. It seems like a heavy rain was coming.

The two of them gradually went deeper into the forest, where the trees were taller with their broad leaves almost covering the sky, making the forest appear darker.

After the sunlight disappeared, the forest became as dark as in the evening. And as the temperature began to drop, a dark and humid scent suddenly appeared in the air.

Lu Qiu felt a little scared. Since the rest of the things that they hadn’t found yet were now practically useless, there’s no longer a need to look for them. She patted the giant cat behind as she now wanted to go back, but the giant cat ignored her meaning and continued to walk deeper into the woods.
