Chapter 58: Behind Ruth’s Mind (2)

With a yawn, Wells stretched out his limbs— from a coiling cat, he turned into an outstretched long cat with his front and hind legs hanging separately on the edge of the cat’s nest. He then bent his head down for a moment and opened his eyes in a daze while looking at the table. There he saw Ruth, who was leaning against the wall, and Lu Qiu, who was standing on the table.

“Having a meal? Why is Ruth covering his mouth like that?”

Wells asked while licking his paws and rubbing them down against his face.

Ruth placed his paws down first, then he said, “It’s nothing, My Lord. I should serve your meal. Today’s vegetable dish is carrot.”

Wells was in the middle of washing his face when he suddenly stopped and stood up from the cat’s nest as if he couldn’t believe what was in front of him. Just as expected, he saw half a root of carrot, which was clean and bright, on his dining plate.

He really, really, really hates eating this thing.

He would rather eat the unpalatable nutritional supplement than eat this thing out of the blue.

A lot of animals are a very picky eater. They are either pure vegetarians or carnivorous, which leads them to the lack of certain vitamins resulting in constipation, diarrhea, dry mouth, muddy eyes, dry hair, weak hands, and feet. In short, there are plenty of health problems arising from their habit. As a result, the nutritional supplement became the only solution they have for these problems.

The nutritional supplement is a kind of liquid that tastes rather strange. Thus, most animals find it quite unpleasant to drink.

Wells would eat a little amount of vegetables every other day, not often changing their variety. However, today, it happened to be a carrot. He thought Ruth had done it on purpose, knowing that he hated this kind of vegetable the most.

The scent wafted on his nose as he went closer in front of the table, and before he got even closer to the carrot dish, he immediately distanced himself, turned his head, and acted like he’s about to vomit. One would even see that his eyes looked like it’s about to roll over his eyelids, which looked really comical.

Seeing his face, Lu Qiu couldn’t help but laugh. All the discomfort she had felt when facing Ruth’s threat before had disappeared. She then went over to his plate and looked at the carrots. In order to eat conveniently, she had cut them into tiny pieces. However, the carrots were still raw and had not been cooked.

Contrary to what people believe, cats could also eat vegetables. However, it will be better to cook it, and the most acceptable way for cats to eat it is to mix it with cat food or turn it into carrot or vegetable juice.

Lu Qiu didn’t like carrots that much either because their smell makes her feel strange. While she was at it, she picked up a piece and tossed it into her mouth to eat. She didn’t change that much from her previous life, just grew up.

Seeing that she was now eating, Ruth calmly said, “My Lord, even your pet has eaten it. Don’t be picky.”

Ruth and Lu Qiu had a very tacit understanding to not mention the matter between them just now. Ruth’s attitude was the same as usual as if he had never tried to attack her before.

Wells glared at him. He, once again, looked at the carrot with disgust and pushed the plate away from him.

“I don’t want this thing. I’ll just drink the nutritional supplement.”

Ruth didn’t take the carrot dish away. Instead, he went to get the nutritional supplement and poured it into a bowl.

Wells felt bitter that anyone could see “Life is really difficult, I am extremely distressed” written all over his face as he looked over the carrot dish and the bowl of liquid supplement.

He stealthily pushed the dish out once again.

Ruth pushed it back with his paws and sternly said, “My Lord, you shouldn’t throw it away stealthily. Just this morning, I noticed that one of the nutrition boosters went missing. Are you hurt? How is your condition now? Do you need me to call the doctor?”

Wells shook his head, “No need. It’s all right.”

“In that case, the more reason you should drink this one as it will be advantageous for your recovery. You must not be willful.” Ruth persuaded Wells and pushed both the dish and the bowl to his face.

Although Lu Qiu could not understand what they were talking about, she could still discern that they were in the middle of an argument, and from the looks of it, Wells appeared to resist.

After taking a sip of the liquid inside the bowl, she took a few steps back with a complicated expression on her face. To be honest, it wasn’t that difficult to drink, it’s just that the taste was too complex— a little sweet, a little salty, and a little bitter. She failed to understand how they could create such a strange flavor.

What kind of medicine is this? Why does the giant cat need to take such medicine?

She couldn’t help recalling yesterday’s event when the giant cat caught herself. In the past, she used to see news about children being caught after falling from a high place, and every time, the person who caught and cushioned their fall would suffer a fracture in their limbs.

The effect of force on both of them was mutual. At that time, she felt hurt all over her body as if she was dying from internal injuries, making her unable to get up for most of the day. Today, she still felt the pain whenever she tried to move, but it wasn’t as serious as the giant cat who caught her. After all, she fell from 70 meters instead of 7 meters. It was extremely high.

She was so surprised that she didn’t notice his situation until now. Lu Qiu furrowed her eyebrows tightly, then went beside the giant cat and held his paws. She blamed herself for not noticing this in advance, thinking about his pain whenever he moved his body.

Why didn’t I notice it yesterday? Is it because the giant cat behaved as if nothing had happened? Lu Qiu thought while blaming herself.

In order to make her happy… He even turned himself into a giant cat slide!

Lu Qiu felt like her chest was stuffed with balls of cotton; feeling somewhat uncomfortable.

“How are you now? Does it still hurt?”

She asked but couldn’t get an answer from him. She could only hold the giant cat’s front paws and gently rub them with all her might.

Wells was surprised when the little pet suddenly showered him with love right after having a sip from the bowl of nutritional supplement. Could it be that…after tasting the supplement, she now felt sorry for him for needing to drink such an unpleasant liquid? The corner of his mouth couldn’t help but curl up into a beautiful arc.

My pet is just too cute!

“Qiu.”

Lu Qiu then replied with an extraordinary meowing sound.

Really, to act so coquettishly, Wells felt his heart would melt any time soon. Since Wells felt happy, he picked up the bowl and drank all of its contents.

Ruth, who saw this scene, looked dumbfounded.

What happened again? What’s going on? Why?

Lu Qiu ate a small portion of the carrot. She also needed a vitamin supplement.

After their meal, Lu Qiu walked around the room to aid her digestion. Ruth pulled Wells to a corner and told him that his pursuit of Lu Qiu’s origin was fruitless. Ruth suspects that she was a spy sent by other forces and might bring harm to Wells.

Wells never asked Ruth to trace Lu Qiu’s origin, he didn’t even think about this matter. He only guessed that Lu Qiu was a hairless monkey, but in fact, he couldn’t really tell whether Lu Qiu was truly a hairless monkey or not.

Whether she is truly a hairless monkey or not, he doesn’t really care. He was more concerned about whether the pet is an intelligent animal or not.

If she was truly an intelligent animal, then she can’t be his pet anymore.

Whenever he thought about this, at a certain point, he began to feel regret and reluctant to part with her.

Soon enough, he went into a mental journey as he dazed around with nobody knowing what was inside his head. Seeing this, Ruth couldn’t help but persuade him, “You care too much about this pet of yours.”

Wells looked back and gave him a smile, “Right, don’t you think that she’s smart, adorable, and different?”

Ruth: “…”

That is not what I’m trying to say!

It doesn’t make sense at all. Ruth felt tired and thought that he should keep an eye on the little pet. That animal sure is a little extraordinary.

Thinking of this, he couldn’t help but lift his claw to scratch his chin. When she touched him there before, he felt as if he had been under her control— he only wanted to lie down in front of her and let her touch him more.

It’s too scary! He shouldn’t let her touch him in the future.

For the first time in his life as a butler, Ruth, who was calm and collected in the face of danger, felt a little afraid in front of a weak animal.
