Chapter 14 – Liu Yishuang’s Wedding

Yue Sisi seemed to have gone crazy. Cai Xin charged at her and raised a hand to slap her but stopped mid-air. She clenched her hand into a fist. “Fine, Yue Sisi, I’ll tell you the truth! That year, you were begging every day for that doll as your birthday present. With your dad’s pay, how could he afford it? He could only take on more shifts! He didn’t care who was taking leave, he would take the initiative and ask them for their shift. All because he wanted to earn money to buy you that doll. On that day before your birthday, he hadn’t earned enough money. My dad wanted to help your dad so he purposefully said he was sick and took time off so that your dad could earn a day’s worth. Who would have known that it would rain? Your dad had worked several days straight then and fell asleep at the wheel. That’s how the accident happened!”

She looked at Yue Sisi whose eyes were widened in disbelief and continued, “My dad still blames himself for it to this day, saying that he shouldn’t have let your dad work that day and he didn’t allow me to tell you anything. But have some conscience, who do you think caused your dad’s accident, my dad or you because you wanted that doll?!”

Yue Sisi couldn’t accept reality. She kept shaking her head, “This is impossible! Impossible!”

“If you don’t believe me, you can ask your mom whether this is the truth. All these years, everyone was afraid to tell you the truth because you won’t be able to accept it, you’ll blame yourself. So everyone hid this from you. We indulged you. We accommodated you. And gradually turned you into this psychopathic monster!” Cai Xin grabbed Yue Sisi’s collar and stared into her eyes, enunciating each word, “Yue Sisi, I went easy on you, not because I thought my family owed you anything, but because you were my friend. You lost your dad, I pitied you! But from today onwards, I won’t continue to pity you anymore!”

She let go of Yue Sisi and let her fall to the ground. She didn’t take a second look and left without looking back.

Cai Xin walked on with tears in her eyes.

Everything that had happened was over and there was no need to look back from now on.

If she still had regrets, it was that she hated herself for not clarifying this destructive understanding earlier.

Cai Xin thought that since Liu Yishuang was getting married, she still had to go. But she couldn’t go alone.

She thought about Zhang Heran’s question.

She really was weak in front of Liu Yishuang before, but from now on, she would have to reclaim her dignity.

She had to bring an outstanding male companion and tell Liu Yishuang: Look, I can live without you.

Cai Xin immediately thought of Zhang Heran for this outstanding male companion.

She called Zhang Heran and made the request, telling Zhang Heran that she planned to hire him as her boyfriend once more.

Zhang Heran didn’t have the enthusiasm he had when receiving orders last time. This time, he was a little cold. He asked Cai Xin coldly, “You really think of me as someone who answers to your beck and call, huh?”

Cai Xin smiled and answered him, “I’ll give you more money.”

Zhang Heran asked her again coldly, “Do you think that every time you want to hire me, I won’t refuse at all and readily agree to you?”

Cai Xin was still smiling. She asked, “Then, will you accept this job or not?”

After a long while, she thought she heard Zhang Heran gritting his teeth. He said coldly, “I’ll take it.” After a few seconds, he added, “But, remember, this is the last time.”

The day of Liu Yishuang’s wedding, Cai Xin hooked her arm around Zhang Heran’s and entered the wedding hall together. Zhang Heran dashing in his suit, even more handsome than he was on the day of the exhibit. With him by her side, Cai Xin felt like she didn’t lose one bit to today’s bride.

After the ceremony, the bride and groom started going around the room for toasts.

When he reached them, Liu Yishuang was surprised when he saw Zhang Heran, “You rascal! You won’t move no matter how much money my boss offers you, I don’t know what wind blew you over to China. I didn’t think I would see you at my wedding today! Why are you here?”

Zhang Heran smiled and took Cai Xin’s hand, “I came with my girlfriend.”

Liu Yishuang looked at Cai Xin with a shocked expression, “Ah, so you guys… Oh, gosh, Cai Xin, I’m really sorry about that day! Someone was being narcissistic!” Liu Yishuang looked a mix of surprise and embarrassment.

Cai Xin looked at him, suddenly at peace as if she could suddenly let go of what she had not been able to.

She smiled and looked at Liu Yishuang unblinkingly, “Congratulations!” And when she looked at Liu Yishuang, she didn’t know that Zhang Heran was steadily looking at her, too.
