Chapter 13 – Before I Get Married

Over the next few days, Zhang Heran’s words kept ringing in Cai Xin’s ears, especially the first part.

She began to reflect on whether she really was as weak as he said.

She forced herself not to take the initiative to contact Liu Yishuang and from that, she realized that Liu Yishuang didn’t take the initiative to contact her at all. Even after she returned from the hospital, he didn’t send a single text to check up on her.

Cai Xin was a little disappointed. How much did he not care about someone that he would neglect her to such extent? Even if a colleague or a customer had food poisoning, she would send a message out of courtesy and ask if they were feeling better.

Cai Xin bit by bit recalled her interactions with Liu Yishuang during this period. She felt that she didn’t understand this world anymore.

If he wasn’t interested in her, why would he accompany her to eat, have tea and watch movies?

If he was interested in her, why did he not do such a trivial thing like asking how she was?

As Cai Xin drowned in her sad speculations, she finally received a call from Liu Yishuang.

However, he didn’t call with the intention of checking up on her after neglecting her for such a long time; he wanted to tell her, “Cai Xin, to tell you the truth, the reason why I’m back in China this time is to prepare for my wedding. The wedding date is now set, it’s on the first of next month, make sure you come!”

He continued, “Cai Xin, thank you for silently following me for so many years, liking my posts every day. Knowing that a girl likes me so much from her youth until the present is a very, very honorable thing! Thank you for making me have this beautiful feeling! I hope that me accompanying you during this time will leave you with beautiful memories!”

Cai Xin’s brain blasted into a mush. It took her a long time to regain consciousness. She replayed it over and over in her head, finally extracting the thing she wanted to understand the most from this chaos, “Liu Yishuang, can I ask you a question? Why would you do this? You’re obviously getting married, why would you still want to play with my feelings?” Cai Xin felt the corners of her mouth quiver.

She rubbed her face, realizing she was actually crying and tears were flowing down her face. Her tears had unknowingly trailed past the corners of her mouth, the bitter taste went down her throat.

Over the phone, Liu Yishuang sounded even more surprised, “Didn’t you ask Yue Sisi to tell me to do this? For me to help you realize a dream and leave you with good memories before I get married? The only reason I agreed to this was because I was moved when I found out you were the one liking my posts every day…”

Cai Xin closed her eyes and droplets of salty tears traveled down her cheeks.

Yue Sisi. This time, her name completely chilled her heart.

Cai Xin decided she couldn’t tolerate it anymore, she must ask Yue Sisi for an explanation. She contacted Yue Sisi and asked why she did it.

Yue Sisi laughed so hard that tears almost escaped her eyes, “Why did I do it? Of course, it’s to help you realize your dream! Did you honestly believe you can get together with him?”

Cai Xin gritted her teeth and clenched her fist, trying to restrain the urge to punch someone, “Growing up, I’ve always treated you as a good friend of mine, I’ve always gone easy on you, but you’ve never really regarded me as a friend, right? You just hate seeing me do well for myself, right?”

Yue Sisi suddenly raised her voice, “Yes! I can’t see you living well! I’m jealous! I refuse to see you happier than me! It disgusts me that you can celebrate New Year’s with your dad! Such a happy life should obviously belong to me! Your dad was obviously the one who was supposed to drive that day but my dad took up his shift! Did you know that the next day was my birthday? The one who was supposed to die then was obviously your dad!”
