Chapter 17 : Romburgh Underground Ruins

《Romburgh Underground Ruins》 wasn’t very different if it was compared to the《Den of the Battle Rat》.

Since we were basically penniless, we walked until we reached the village near the 《Romburgh Underground Ruins》 while carrying our luggage.

We spent a night in that village and in the morning we dove into the 《Romburgh Underground Ruins》.

The 《Romburgh Underground Ruins》 was a dungeon that was basically a giant black trapezoid made of stone. Once you reached the top of the trapezoid, there was a rectangular hole that had a stairway leading deeper into the ruins.

In order to reach the staircase to descend into the dungeon, the trapezoid structure had four different staircases that connected to the top, which was first and foremost what we had to climb.

Although this was not the first time that I had visited the《Romburgh Underground Ruins》, I was always left in awe every time I saw this scene.

How should I say it? It always reminded me about how small my existence was every time I saw that giant stone trapezoid.

「Emergency rations… check, water check, flame stone check…. Yosh! We should have no problems going half a day without food after having a proper meal. Preparations are complete.」

…In the off chance, we could resupply our water in the《Romburgh Underground Ruins》.

Our luggage would be far lighter if we had magic that could provide water or a water stone that could produce water just by injecting mana into it…. Beelzebub’s Demon Core that was embedded into the crossguard of the magic sword was flickering.

「Calm down, you two…. I mean look, there should be no problem in treating Archdevil-sama to a feast as long as we get a battle bone, right? 」

Mani clapped on my shoulder while sending a sidelong gaze towards the《Beelzera》.

『Muuh, this mistress wants a feast right at this moment though…. Well I guess it really can’t be helped. This mistress shall wait until the end of your exploration. But in exchange for making this mistress wait for her meal, make sure you prepare enough for this mistress! 』

Despite her complaints, Beelzebub became obedient.

While Mani and I were climbing up the stairways of the《Romburgh Underground Ruins》, I checked my status for the last time with 《Imu》.

… Yosh, this status was far better than when I was still using the Poor Blade Popo.

I was no longer a porter.

My level was OK and I have Mani’s forged magic sword 《Beelzera》 which has Beelzebub’s ego in it.

Also, I have the trump card called 《Petit Demordi》 to escape from the worst situation…. The one skill that I’ve yet to check its usefulness was the《Gluttony’s Blade》.

After checking my status in the《Akashic Record*》with 《Imu》, we started descent down the staircase into the《Romburgh Underground Ruins》.. (E/D note: *World Record)

Currently, she accompanied me as my porter.

Mani was walking behind me as she illuminated our surroundings with the mana lamp in her right hand, while she carried the map with her left hand and our luggage was on her back.

「Since today’s exploration is to test the new sword… Let’s avoid any kind of trouble and choose a more deserted place. The UG 1st floor is mainly filled with people who have come to harvest ores, there’s no demon beast in there. So, let’s descend straight to UG 2nd floor from UG 1st floor. 」

「Come to think of it, on which floor do you think the rumored Gold Maimai was last seen? 」

「I did not pay any attention to those details, I’ve only just eavesdropped on some conversations after all. But the location wasn’t the UG 1st floor for sure. Who knows, it might be on the UG 2nd floor or UG 3rd floor? People that could go down to the UG 4th floor weren’t that rare. But, since the one who saw Gold Maimai wasn’t that famous, it’s highly possible that it is not in the UG 4th floor and below.」

The Gold Maimai might have been hunted already, but I want to at least hunt one Maimai for our party.

We descended to the UG 2nd floor without any hitch.

Mani turned down the light of the mana lamp for a bit.

From this point onwards, it would be a truly dangerous area where we could die if we’re surrounded by Demon Beasts and I don’t want to meet other adventurers if possible.

Neither the army nor Adventurer’s Guild would care even if we’re robbed in the labyrinth as long as there weren’t any serial robberies.

In the first place, there was no way for them to know whether the cause of death was done by a demon beast or human.

As of late, in Romburgh City, the ratio of adventurers who were robbed in the demon labyrinth and then killed has been on the rise.

Amongst the victims were rather famous mid-ranked adventurers.

If we happened to meet the adventurer killers, then someone as weak as me will surely be instantly killed by that person or those people.

So, I hope we’re not that unfortunate to end up meeting that killer.
