Eight of the ten scholarly talents present were unable to recognize the three characters written by Yan Xiong. It was truly difficult to unpuzzle. That fool would never stand a chance.

“This are three simple words. If you recognize them then I will acknowledge that you aren’t brain dead. If you can’t then just admit you’re a fool.” Yan Xiong said proudly.

Jin Mulan glanced at the characters and a sudden frown was seen on her lips.

She recognized these characters. Though she practiced in the martial way, she often read books diligently as a scholar would. The characters were too rare. If she hadn’t seen them in a book, she too would not have recognize them because they were rarely used.

Shen Lang leaned forwards and repeated the words inwardly.

They were 莪, 玊, and 丨.

Though he graduated from a prestigious medical university, he only recognized the characters, neither the pronunciation nor the meaning.

“Ha-ha… I know you can’t recognize them.” Yan Xiong sneered. “You don’t know. Admit that you’re a fool, a trash, a moron. After ten years of study, you don’t even know these three simple words?”

The other scholars grew cold sweat. They’d studied more than years and had even passed the scholar examination. Yet, they did not know the three characters whom Yan Xiong found simple.

Shen Lang smiled. Though he did not know, he had the aid of his spiritual power to help him. He pulled up the dictionary and swept through the meanings of the character. He was far too advanced in the times of this world. Only one sweep of his eye and the answers would appear in his mind.

“You’re right. They are simple.” Shen Lang replied. “The first word is 莪 (é) and has the same homonym as goose. It is a sort of plant which can be used as a medicine. It is also found in the Book of Songs which you can find in the Books of Five Classics.”

Yan Xiong’s body shuddered. He was shocked, really. Though the first word was simple, he thought Shen Lang would be unable to recognize them. After all, he’s a fool, right? However, he soon calmed. He was confident Shen Lang would not know the next two characters.

But Shen Lang did not stop. He continued. “The second word is pronounced as 玊 (sù) which means a jade that is blemished. It can also have the meaning of a royal family.”

Before Yan Xiong had the time to react, Shen Lang continued. “The third word, 丨, is really rare and it has many pronunciation and thinking. It can be pronounced as gǔn or shù. The first kind of reading is to read it in vertical. The second kind is to connect with another line either from the top or bottom. The third kind is to leave as is and retreat. And also, it can also be found in the surname of one royal family in the Ancient Times. The Books of Five Classics should have this recorded.”

The history of this world had been destroyed only to be excavated as an ancient truth that is then regarded as the enlightenment and the noble truth. There are many allusions that comes from the books. It may not necessarily be the history of this world, but nevertheless, it is still one regard as the truth.

Shen Lang looked at Yan Xiong. “Am I right?”

Yan Xiong could not believe what he’d just seen. He could only pronounce the first two words and the first meaning. The rest, he did not know. And for the third? Forget it, he too did not know.
