Chapter 24.1: Happily Slapping Face

Xu Qianqian never dreamed nor did she think to believe the identity of the groom was Shen Lang, her foolish ex-husband.

How can it be it be him? To think of it is impossible even if the sun decided to rise in the west.

Who is Jin Mulan? A goddess created by the heavens.

And who is Shen Lang? A foolish, mentally retarded country bumpkin.

Moreover, she’d just recently banished Shen Lang from her house the day before yesterday and planted a crime of theft and sexual assault on their female servants.

The Count of Xuanwu’s family is an age-old giant. How can they choose a toad to be their son-in-law? No, she can’t accept this turn of event. Not even one bit.

Shen Lang, since you’ve been expelled from my Xu Family, you should have withered away into dust… you should have turned into a pile of shit as you are trampled by others.

But… now you’ve married a woman who is more beautiful and noble than me?

How is this possible?

God, isn’t this a joke?

Next to her stood Zhang Jin who vomited blood.

Why?

Jin Mulan was a goddess, a princess, that not even he hopes nor does he dare to embrace in his arms. How… why… why would a goddess like her marry Shen Lang?

“Ha-ha-ha-ha…” Suddenly, Zhang Jin burst out into bouts of laughter. Everyone turned their head to look at him. “Miss Jin Mulan, your wedding is a fake. It is nothing but a conspiracy.”

“Why do you say that?” Jin Mulan replied coldly.

Zhang Jin decisively raised his finger and pointed to Shen Lang. “Do you know who this man is? His name is Shen Lang, a fool who’d yet to learn a thousand words during his ten years worth of study before facing expulsion in Hanshui Town School. After entering the Xu Family House, he was then expelled for the crime of theft and the assault of the Xu Family’s female servant. How then can the Count’s Palace look at… that waste? How can a personage such as Miss Jin Mulan accept him as your partner? So, this wedding can only be a fake.”

“Yes… yes!” The young men of talents shouted in unison.

They too thought the marriage to be a farce. How could their goddess marry a trash?

After Zhang Jin’s commentary, he cast a glance towards the crowd. After all, he is the son of a noble family and to personally tear Shen Lang apart was beneath his status.

Suddenly, amongst the crowd, a well-to-do scholar came out.

“It is true. I can prove this because I once studied with him at Hanshui Town School.” He said aloud. “It is true that Shen Lang is mentally retarded and his intelligence is handicapped.”

Shen Lang recognized this man. His name was Yan Xiong and was indeed his classmate in Hanshui Town School.

He smiled inwardly. What is this? The people who’ve come out to stab him at this critical moment were all acquaintances.

In truth, the poor Yan Xiong was not qualified to attend this evening’s wedding, but after passing the scholarly examination, he managed to worship a good teacher of famed reputation in Xuanwu City. His name was Zhang Bo Yan.

It goes to say that Yan Xiong not only fawned on Zhang Bo Yan but also towards Zhang Jin so he decided to climb and hug the thighs of the Zhang Family.

Before becoming a scholar of his own rights, he was a school bully while Shen Lang was the person whom he poked fun with on a daily day to day basis.

He’d not expect such a foolish white lotus had hugged the thighs of the Count’s Palace and is now married to Jin Mulan, the Princess of Xuanwu City. How can someone of his status stand to look at this sight?

So for a moment, he forgot his refined manners. When his eyes met Zhang Jin’s, he instantly made up his mind.

Shen Lang turned his head. His voice was soft, gentle, and enchanting. “Yan Xiong, you say that I am mentally retarded… is this correct? Then, do you have evidence?”

“Ha-ha-ha!” Yan Xiong sneered. “You can’t recognize a thousand words even after ten years had passed. Isn’t this enough evidence. Alright, alright, I’ll give you face. I will write a few words and if you can recognize them, I will, of course, retract my statement. How about this?”

Xu Qianqian wanted to speak out and stop the madness, but before she could Shen Lang had already replied.

“Alright!”

“I need an ink, brush, and paper.” Said Yan Xiong.

Cold sweat formed on his temples. At first, he was somewhat nervous. After all, he was inside the Count’s Palace and to cause a scene would prove nothing but disrespect and such his legs trembled throughout. But after seeing the crowd’s support him, just like the stars who carried the moon, Yan Xion’s worries eased off. He wanted to show off. It’d be for the best to break up Shen Lang and Jin Mulan’s marriage right this instant.

The Count’s Palace would not be willing to give the material Yan Xiong requested, but there were several guests who brought such material as a gift. Someone of esteemed personage immediately went to fetch them.

Thereafter, Yan Xiong picked up the brush and wrote a few strokes on the cardinal red paper.

The crowd walked up and crowded him in a circle. Looking at the strokes, a sort of chill came eerily from behind and they held their breaths out of fear for the strokes and the words looked familiar, but they themselves were unable to understand.

It looked distant. It felt ancient and held an overbearing sort of presence. The esteemed guest’s respect for the scholars elevated higher, but little do they know that even the most prestigious scholars know of nor do they recognize the strokes and the words.

If they had known, they would long died.
