His Transmigrated Cannon Fodder Fiance - Chapter 22 - Throwing One’s Weight Around (2)
Chapter 22 – Throwing One’s Weight Around (2)
The servant in charge of the kitchen is one of the old madam’s servants who came from her maternal house, lady Li. And naturally, with the old madam Shen’s family backing, she has never placed Shen Ziqiao in her eyes, usually skimping heavily on her meals.
The former Shen Ziqiao naturally had a simple mind and never realized that others secretly bullied her.
“Why did you wait until now; no one is cooking anymore. Moreover, we have already delivered the third miss’ lunch. And what did you say she wanted to eat? Steamed bass with eight treasures rice? These are difficult dishes to make, which we can’t cook at this time.”
When lady Li heard Hong Yu’s message, her face sank, and she sat to the side, stopping several women who had begun to get on their feet.
Hong Yu tried to smile, pacifying the older woman. “Lady Li, the third miss has just returned and has not eaten yet.”
“Then she’ll have to make noodles on her own; don’t let her blame us that she can’t eat whatever she wants.” Lady Li’s mouth curved in disdain.
“But…lady Li, the third miss wants steamed fish and eight treasures rice.” Hong Yu said quietly, “Please steam a fish for the third miss.”
Lady Li gave Hong Yu a sideways glance. “Go back and tell third miss that the kitchen stove has gone out. She can either cook noodles in the small oven or wait for dinner before she can eat steamed fish.”
At the current time, there were still two hours left until dinner. Won’t the young miss starve? Hong Yu thought.
“Are you the master or the third young miss? Who are you to refuse when the master wants to eat? Is there a rule stipulating when the masters will have lunch?”
Hong Ying was a girl with a fierce personality. When she heard that the servant Li paid no respect to their master, she opened her mouth and questioned —despite if she was the old madam Shen’s trusted aide.
Lady Li has lived in the Shen family for so long with no one ever questioning her authority. And now, a servant girl even younger than her dared to reprimand her in front of everyone; not even the young Shen misses would speak in loud tones to her.
“Oh, are you serious? Who are you to dare criticize me, a slave lower than a dog—did you really think you can throw your weight around?”
“If I am a slave lower than a dog, then what are you?” In spite of Hong Yu tugging at her sleeve, Hong Ying still asked crisply.
“How rebellious!” Lady Li became livid from embarrassment. “Take this cheap girl, and this old woman will discipline her properly today for all the other 369 servants in this residence.”
Hong Yu begged for mercy and said, “Lady Li, Hong Ying was just recently placed in the Qiao Xin courtyard, and she still doesn’t understand anything. You adults should disregard such an insignificant slave, let other people deal with this child.”
But lady Li only sneered in reply, “The third miss does not know how to discipline her slaves. Therefore, I will do the honor and discipline them for her.”
“Elder sister, I’m not wrong! They wickedly bully people and won’t even cook lunch for the third miss.” Hong Ying cried fearlessly.
“Do you think you can climb up the ranks with the third miss’ backing? Don’t you know who is in charge of the Shen family?” Lady Li went forward and slapped Hong Ying’s delicate face.
Hong Ying, with her small frame, couldn’t resist and was slapped and beaten until her cheeks became swollen. As she struggled and cried, she still asked defiantly, “I am the third young lady’s servant, how could you lay your hands on me?”
“The responsibility belongs to me whether I beat you senseless today.” Lady Li ruthlessly laid another slap on the young girl’s face.
“Lady Li, please stop hitting my sister…” Hong Yu cried and knelt for mercy. “My younger sister wrongly offended you, please let her go this time.”
“What’s going on?” Cui Ping, who sent the two sisters out, heard of the accident and came to take a look. Upon arriving, she unexpectedly saw such a scene.
As soon as Hong Yu saw Cui Ping, it was as if she saw a savior and went over with tears on her face, narrating the happenings.
But Cui Ping was only relieved from the bottom of her heart. It was truly fortunate that she wasn’t the one who came to the kitchen to account for the third miss’ lunch.
She raised her face and said, “You two are really…! Since lady Li said there is no way to steam fish at this time, then let us wait for the dinner. And there are no rules!”
Hong Ying and Hong Yu didn’t expect Cui Ping not to take their side, so they felt very desperate.
“Lady Li, thank you very much for teaching these poor girls on behalf of our third miss.” Cui Ping smiled amicably and spoke to lady Li.
Just as lady Li was about to speak, she heard a flat voice from behind. Shen Ziqiao had a gentle smile on her face as she asked, “I’d like to know who dares to teach my maids a lesson.”
