Sheng Peiyin, holding the tea bowl in one hand, mixed the tea powder as she looked around the luxurious and vulgar room. Her apricot-colored eyes flashed with regret and disgust.

She didn’t expect that the room she would set-up Shen Ziqiao in would be Qi Zheng’s—she had in mind it would belong to an ordinary pilgrim, hence, why she placed Shen Ziqiao inside it in the first place. After all, if Shen Ziqiao is to marry Qi Zheng, wouldn’t it alleviate Shen Ziqiao’s reputation bearing into mind that Qi Zheng’s father is the Duke An?

“I heard some dreadful rumors today, so I came here… Did the old madam Shen scold you?” Sheng Peiyin gauged Shen Ziqiao’s face. She knew that old madam Shen had always held a dislike for this particular granddaughter. Perhaps, after listening to the rumors, her aversion would rise.

Shen Ziqiao leaned against the big tea table, looking indifferent. “I have a clear conscience. I am not afraid of slander from the shadows. It seems as if it is a sin for outsiders to save a person’s life.”

Sheng Peiyin didn’t expect this straw bag to say such profound words. “You did a kind act. However, only those who were at the scene are witness to this. Unfortunately, there’s always no guarantee of how rumors would spread to outsiders. I’m afraid it would affect your reputation.”

“How is it possible that sister Sheng can walk around with a man when she is acting as the housekeeper? Maybe if you explain a few words for me, others will not misunderstand.” Shen Ziqiao gave a bright and innocent smile. Since Sheng Peiyin wanted to ruin her, yet was unable to tear their friendship for the sake of an easy revenge, Shen Ziqiao thought, why not use her instead?

“Let me clear up the rumors?” Sheng Peiyin was taken aback for a moment. She wanted to tear Shen Ziqiao’s status; how could she possibly explain things for her benefit?

“Didn’t sister Sheng saw and heard it yesterday with your own eyes and ears what Master Qi said?” Shen Ziqiao looked at Sheng Peiyin naively with her round and charming eyes. “There were so many people present yesterday, yet such a terrible rumor went out instead… It seems that this person has a deep hatred against me.”

This straw bag… Sheng Peiyin regretted coming here today. She didn’t want to fix things for Shen Ziqiao. Unfortunately, she was present yesterday.

“Rumors end with wise people. The more you talk about it, people may think you are covering for something.” Sheng Peiyin said with a smile.

Shen Ziqiao smiled. “Sister Sheng is right; then I’ll ignore it.”

And she also became a joke in the inner circle between young misses—she became a topic women could not bring to the table.

She was Shen Ziqiao sole best friend. And she isn’t aware of other people who know Shen Ziqiao’s ignorance and naivety better than she does. Yet the fiasco that occurred at the Thousand Buddha Temple yesterday made her feel as if she didn’t know enough about Shen Ziqiao.
