Chapter 957: I’m Proud of You (3)

Translator:Henyee TranslationsEditor:Henyee Translations

An Xiaxia’s head was swooning when he let go of her. “I’m not wearing any lipstick today… Ah, but I did have some spicy hot cup noodles!”

Her lips must have been red from the chilli.

“Yup, I figured that out. It’s quite yummy.” Sheng Yize couldn’t help but chuckle.

An Xiaxia blushed right away, for she suddenly recalled that she had eaten the noodles after washing up. Afterward, she only washed her mouth, but didn’t brush her teeth. The taste must still be in her mouth…

Aww, that was so shameful…

“I’m going back up. Do you want to… come up with me?” An Xiaxia asked hesitantly.

“No. He Jiayu’s not at home and it wouldn’t be appropriate.” Sheng Yize checked his watch. “Go keep her company. Call me if you need anything.”

An Xiaxia bit her lip. “What about you?”

Sheng Yize smiled mildly.

“Worried about me?”

“Of course!” An Xiaxia lowered her head. “I was thinking that if it had been you today, I would have had a nervous breakdown already…”

“I know.” Sheng Yize understood her. “And I will never make you worry.”

He would never choose a profession like a doctor or a police officer.

It wasn’t that he didn’t have other aspirations, but to him, An Xiaxia was the top priority.

He didn’t want her to worry.

He rubbed An Xiaxia’s head and the little woman hopped back upstairs, only to come back down with a blanket.

“This is for you! Don’t catch a cold!”

Sheng Yize glanced at the aircon temperature inside the car.

28 degrees.

Far from a temperature that would give him a cold.

But he accepted An Xiaxia’s affection without hesitation and added, “Go get some sleep.”

“Sure. Good night!”

–

Sheng Yize sat in the car the whole night. He set out for work a little past seven after ordering the two friends a takeaway breakfast, which was to be delivered at ten o’clock.

He spent his morning dealing with official business. His assistant then came into his office after a knock, saying gingerly, “Mr. Sheng…”

“Yes?” Sheng Yize was reading a document in his hand.

He had been away for a while and a few contracts which needed his personal attention had piled up.

Examining the look on his face, the assistant asked with a distressed expression, “May I inquire what your mood is like at the moment?”

“Pretty good.” Sheng Yize looked up. “To the point, please.”

“I’m going to tell you, then…”

Sheng Yize’s face darkened. What was wrong with his personal assistant today?

“Miss Lan is waiting for you in the lounge.”

“Miss Lan?” Lan Yu?

“She says she’s here as the daughter of the Lan family of Qing City…” The assistant’s voice trailed off.

Sheng Yize was silent for a moment. He then snapped the file shut. “Take me to her.”

“Yes.”

The lounge.

Lan Yu was gracefully sipping from her coffee cup. “Hello, Mr. Sheng.”

“To what do we owe this pleasure, Miss Lan?” Sheng Yize bowed a little. The Lan family of Qing City was a force that he couldn’t underestimate.

He had no idea his aunt-to-be was from such a remarkable background.

Lan Yu chuckled, and her upturned eyes had a mesmerizing look to them. “I thought you would have sought me out, but I had to come here for you in the end.”

Sheng Yize smiled back at her, but it never reached his eyes.

“I hear that my uncle has been drowning himself in alcohol these days and can barely keep himself together. I was wondering if Miss Lan has anything to do with it?”

The look on Lan Yu’s face changed a little and her smile looked forced. “Oh? I didn’t know.”

“I can forget about the incident with the news last time for my uncle’s sake.” Sheng Yize raised his dark eyebrows. “I’m only confused about Miss Lan’s intentions.”

“Forget about it? Don’t you think you owe me a thank you?”
