The Duchess and the Devil - Chapter 59.2
“We just need to say hello to the Emperor.”
– But it hurts you.
– I can stand it.
Derrick frowned, not understanding the reason for his stubbornness. He was not going to move until he heard a reason that satisfied him. Only then did Judith quickly explain everything, but the demon had a strange expression on his face. He still didn’t understand why he couldn’t cure his wife if she was sick. Even the thought of it seemed terrifying.
For the first time since the banquet began, Derrick’s expression became so cruel.
– I can help.
– That’s not the point…
But the demon simply clicked his tongue. It was not easy to persuade Derrick, but he still resigned himself and headed to the top of the banquet hall. Walking down the red carpet, many other couples could be spotted. Finally, it was the Dukes’ turn.
“Your Majesty, I sincerely congratulate you on your birthday,” the two stood side by side, congratulating the Emperor.
But the man’s gaze was fixed only on Judith.
– Thank you, Duke. And… Duchess,” he lazily glanced at Derrick. His dark brown eyes twinkled in the light of the chandelier.
Fortunately or unfortunately, it was impossible to find that red energy in them, as in the library. The Emperor raised his chin and squeezed the lower part of it, after which he licked his lips, still looking at Judith, who tried to look away at such moments. Suddenly, the Duchess flinched as someone squeezed her wrist. Derrick was the culprit.
A groan escaped from the girl’s mouth.
– Madam, are you okay?
And at that moment Derrick entered the conversation:
“Your Majesty, my wife is not feeling well.” So I think we should go back.
– Really, Duke? What exactly hurts?
– Nothing serious. Only pain in my legs.
Judith was silent in embarrassment. However, Derrick looked as if he did not enjoy talking to the Emperor at all.
— If your leg hurts, I will provide you with a rest room. Very little time had passed since the banquet began. Therefore, I will be sorry to say goodbye to you so soon.
Judith wanted to refuse, but the Emperor’s voice seemed too powerful. And his benevolent authority was overwhelming. This undoubtedly unexpected service ruined all plans. The Emperor called the servants, whom he ordered to escort the Duchess to the rest room.
But with every step Judith experienced a terrible cutting pain. Derrick easily noticed this and squeezed her hand. The Duchess felt like the skin on her leg was peeling off and that soon everything around would be covered in blood. Limping slightly and emitting short sighs, she walked.
However, suddenly the body rose into the air. Trying to find support, Judith hugged her husband’s neck. Only at that moment did she realize that it was he who took her in his arms.
– What… What are you doing?
“I told you that I will always help you,” he smiled brightly.
The women, watching everything from the side, opened their mouths. However, Judith turned white as a sheet of paper. She didn’t even know that these words would now become his main weapon.
