Chapter 29 – His Plus-One

Her first day was uneventful. After familiarising herself with the company, she got off work early. Mo Lixin didn’t expect that Ji Nanfeng would come to pick her up.

“Why are you here?!” Mo Lixin asked.

“To pick you up, hop in!” Ji Nanfeng answered nonchalantly.

Mo Lixin obediently boarded the car. She couldn’t wrap her head around how Ji Nanfeng was acting recently. He was an enigma.

“Why aren’t you saying anything?!” Ji Nanfeng finally asked after a long silence in the car.

Mo Lixin didn’t know how to answer. She couldn’t find a topic to start. In all honesty, she had realized that there were very few things both he and she were interested in. No wonder… no wonder, Duan Anran was able to get along with him so well during that time. Duan Aran had graduated together with him; they were similar in age and were more or less equal in terms of knowledge in the history and geography department.

“There’s going to be a party tomorrow. I’m taking you to go dress-shopping!” Seeing as she didn’t speak, Ji Nanfeng took the initiative to start the conversation.

“What’s the occasion tomorrow?” Mo Lixin subconsciously asked.

“It’s the birthday of Grandpa’s comrade-in-arms tomorrow. The whole Ji family must attend.”

“Aren’t you…” Mo Lixin was halfway through saying her thoughts when the car stopped.

Ji Nanfeng knew what she was going to say from that short bit – she thought he would take Duan Anran again. After all, after they got married, Ji Nanfeng always attended banquets with Duan Anran as his female companion.

The car was quiet once more. Ji Nanfeng felt helpless. Mo Lixin didn’t communicate with him very much in the first place, not because she didn’t like him, but she became more cautious in the face of such an important matter.

Ji Nanfeng couldn’t help thinking that before that incident, she was actually a very cheerful, sunny young lady.

Mo Lixin wanted herself to relax and be more natural but she was used to acting this way and couldn’t seem to adapt.

They went to the mall she had visited a few days ago, AZ Shopping Mall. The store that plagiarized her Starry Sky series was already shut down. It seemed that Allans was very efficient! She had only mentioned it once and within a few days, the store was out of business.

“What do you think about this store? Let’s go in and take a look!” Ji Nanfeng said.

Mo Lixin looked towards the shop Ji Nanfeng pointed to. She was given the first impression that it was clean and was satisfied so she stepped inside.

“This is… Juzui!” Mo Lixin was a little surprised! She liked the wedding dresses Gong Yue designed and had recently discovered that Gong Yue was Juzui’s elusive founder. But she didn’t realize that they ventured outside of designing wedding dresses and looked to be doing well too.

“Take anything you like!” Ji Nanfeng could tell she liked them and smiled.

“Anything?” Mo Lixin knew that this meant he was paying, how unprecedented of him.

“Yeah! Your dear husband can still afford this small sum!” Ji Nanfeng’s mood improved tremendously. Without even taking into account his monthly salary as a postdoctoral researcher, his 30% of the Ji Group’s shares was enough to let him lead a good life without needing to work. Moreover, he liked investing and owned a lot of shares at other large companies. He was more or less a rich hubby.

“You again?!” They heard a female voice.

“You?” Mo Lixin turned around and saw a familiar face, the employee she met at Meishang, the store that plagiarized Starry Sky, that day.

“What, did you think that I won’t be able to find a job after Meishang went out of business?” The employee was quite proud of herself.

Mo Lixin felt that this person was strange, always finding fault for no reason.

“The thought never crossed my mind. There’s absolutely no need for me to care about you. Ma’am, you might have persecutory delusions!” No matter how good Mo Lixin’s temper was, she couldn’t stand this person’s repeated provocation.

Ji Nanfeng had gone to the restroom and returned to find this scene.

“What’s wrong?!” Ji Nanfeng asked, putting his hand on her back and partially embracing her.

Mo Lixin looked up at him, “It’s nothing. I’ve just met someone I don’t like!”

The aforementioned employee’s eyes gleamed at the sight of Ji Nanfeng. What a good-looking man! He was wearing a loose purple sweater and a pair of gold-framed glasses. He was simply the epitome of the legendary handsome “refined rascal”!

Mo Lixin saw that person staring at Ji Nanfeng, almost drooling, and boiled with anger. “What are you looking at?! This one, this one, and this one. I want them all, wrap them up!”

Mo Lixin was swept up in her emotions and lost control momentarily. Ji Nanfeng saw a rare side of her and was in a good mood, the smile on his lips became more pronounced.

“Yes, yes, yes. Wrap these all up. Fear not, hubby’s paying!” Ji Nanfeng said cooperatively.

The employee who turned her nose up at Mo Lixin before suddenly didn’t know what to say and was a little scared after hearing Ji Nanfeng declare himself her husband! She thought that Mo Lixin wasn’t an influential figure seeing that she wore ordinary clothes. Even though her superiors told her not to neglect any customer who came into the store when she started work here, she couldn’t help herself. Now that she reflected upon it, those who can enter these stores casually were all people she couldn’t afford to offend.

“Third Young Master Ji, welcome! Why did you not notify us!” As the employee was about to say something, she heard her boss’s voice and felt her heart drop to her stomach.
