Chapter 20: I Am Her Husband

“In the past…I was preoccupied, so I didn’t tell you guys.” Ji Nanfeng continued his explanation. After all, they were brothers, so the fault laid at his feet for not informing them of his marriage. Therefore, he owed an explanation to them.

“My goodness! Third Brother, then what about Duan Anran? Wasn’t she still with you last month?” Gan Yunting asked, confusion laced in her tone.

“Her? I don’t know her and I don’t want to either!” Ji Nanfeng answered.He didn’t want to hide his fake amnesia from his brother.

“Third Brother, didn’t the hotel previously catch on fire? What happened? It didn’t seem like you’re injured in any way.” Lu Xingyan asked.

“No, but…” Ji Nanfeng paused and then shot in another ball.

“But what? Third Brother, tell me!”

Ji Nanfeng sneered.“To them, I lost my memory. One year or so worth of memory.”

“Amnesia?” Gan Yunting and Lu Xingyan held incredulous looks as they glanced at Ji Nanfeng, a sudden understanding dawning upon them.

“It’s a good thing that Third Brother is fine! You can just keep some things a secret and it’s fine if you don’t say anything about it either.” Gan Yunting said.

After that, the three brothers exchanged looks, a clear meaning behind the gaze.

“Third Brother, let me ask another question. Then my third sister-in-law…”

“She doesn’t know and it wouldn’t be suitable to let her know now. I’ll tell her in the future.” Ji Nanfeng reasoned. He turned his gaze to Mo Lixin.

The girl seemed to be immersed in watching the video, as she placed her bare feet on the sofa and hugged her knees. She looked very quiet and well-behaved, laughing from time to time. She was always so jovial, allowing even the smallest things to make her happy for some time.

Gan Yunting and Lu Xingyan followed his gaze. They still held many questions regarding the third sister-in-law, but they buried it within their hearts. They remained quiet, and could see the fondness their Third Brother held for her. Even they thought that the girl was good for him; she was quiet, well-behaved, obedient, and not boring.

Mo Lixin was entranced as she watched the video, but was disrupted by the grumbling of her stomach. Shooting a glance at the time, she noticed it was nearly time for lunch. She was about to ask Ji Nanfeng when she saw him handsomely shooting in three goals in one strike. She didn’t understand, but she had taken off his headphones right now. Therefore, she could hear their conversation. It seemed like Ji Nanfeng had won and the two of them had to treat them out for food.

“Xin’er, come over.” Ji Nanfeng waved his hands and indicated for her to come over.

Mo Lixin obediently listened, standing off the sofa and walking towards them.

Ji Nanfeng wrapped his arms around her.

“This is Elder Brother, Lu Xingyan!” Ji Nanfeng introduced.

Unsure of what to say, Mo Lixin settled for a simple greeting. “Hello Elder Brother!” It was clear that she was less nervous now.

“This is Fourth Brother!”

“Hello Fourth…Fourth Brother!” Mo Lixin stared at the man in front of her. Although he was handsome and elegant, he was still older than her. She really didn’t have it in hers to call him Younger Brother.

Gan Yunting noticed her unease, so he proposed a solution.“Third sister-in-law, just call me Yunting.”

“Oh! Ok!”

Once the introductions were out of the way, they decided to eat lunch someplace nearby.

“Elder Brother, what happened with the steel?” Gan Yunting wondered, as he drove.

“I think the truck carrying goods accidentally spilled it.” Lu Xingyan responded.

Gan Yunting gulped in fear. “Couldn’t it be that someone is trying to murder you, so they purposefully set up the trap?”

Ji Nanfeng didn’t respond, sitting in the backseat as he hugged Mo Lixin.

“Fourth Brother, place your conspiracy theories away!” Lu Xingyan was speechless. His Fourth Brother always believed someone was out to hurt him as though the whole world was plotting against him.

“There are no buts. Drive the car!”

“Ok.” Gan Yunting relented. In that split second he averted his eyes off the road, the car almost crashed into an elderly person. When he couldn’t pull on the brakes in time, a young woman ran out and pushed the elderly person towards the lawn besides them. The car abruptly stopped and thankfully didn’t crash into anything.

Gan Yunting calmed his heart down. Thankfully, I didn’t crash into anyone.

Mo Lixin wasn’t prepared and bumped her head against the front seat. She grit her teeth in pain, unable to open her eyes.

“What the hell!” Ji Nanfeng yelled at Gan Yunting, feeling horrible upon seeing Mo Lixin in pain.

“How do you feel? Does it hurt a lot? Do we need to go to the hospital? Raise your head and let me see.”

“I’m f…fine. I didn’t even scrape my skin and it’s just a sudden pain. What happened?” Mo Lixin asked.

“Third sister-in-law, there are two people in front of us. Let me take a look.” As Gan Yunting said this, he pushed the door open and got out of the car. The others followed suit.

“It’s you!” Two familiar voices rang at the same time. They belonged to a man and a woman.

When Mo Lixin heard the voice, she walked around the car quickly. As expected, the man was Gan Yunting while the woman was Man Man. She was wondering why the voice felt so familiar.

“Man Man, why is it you?” Mo Lixin asked.

“Hey, Xin Xin, why are you in the car with them?” Xu Qingman asked.

She never asked about Mo Lixin’s family situation, so she didn’t know that well. Normally, she saw Lixin wearing ordinary clothes, so she thought she came from a normal family. However, as she stared at her now, it seemed her thoughts were wrong. Even so, Lixin never said anything, so she didn’t ask either. Therefore, she naturally didn’t lie to her.

“We’re going to eat. How about you? Why don’t you come with us?” Mo Lixin replied, not answering her other question. She turned back around and glanced at Ji Nanfeng, hoping that he could agree.

He shot her a smile. “You can make the decision.”

Mo Lixin didn’t expect an answer from him so quickly.

“Xin Xin, these people are…” Xu Qingman asked. Besides Gan Yunting, she didn’t really recognize anyone else.

“Oh, this is…is…my…” Mo Lixin mumbled, unable to find a good way to explain their relationship.

“I am her husband. There were some matters in the past, so I didn’t announce it to the public.” Ji Nanfeng explained, before Mo Lixin could finish off her sentence.
