Star-Crossed Lovers: The Ex-Convict and the White Rabbit - Chapter 7 - Jilted
Chapter 7 – Jilted
She raised her brows, “Why?”
“Paying back my gratitude.”
“You’re going to get rid of me with just one meal?”
Lu Qiang raised his eyes, scratching his chin with the thumb of the hand on the car’s roof. He smiled and said, “You saved my life. If you want it, it’s yours.”
Tan Wei’s face reddened with heat, “Don’t say useless things.”
She ignored him, winding the window up slowly. Lu Qiang’s arm followed the window halfway before lowering it. He watched the car drive away.
Genzi leaned over, “Brother, was that the woman who always wanted to catch us before?”
Lu Qiang nodded, bending over to enter the car.
Genzi followed, he asked, smiling, “She seems to be interested in you. Brother, what do you think?”
“Not interested.”
Genzi was confused, “But you hit on her just now.”
“Light, please.” Lu Qiang pulled out a cigarette and lit it, taking time to answer, “It’s all just fun and games.”

On the other side of the city.
Half an hour ago, the sky was clear and the air was humid.
Today was July 8th, an auspicious day.
After half an hour, the wind and clouds changed suddenly. The sky clouded over.
No one would expect that what the horoscope predicted – “Fate is unpredictable, it’s a difficult day to marry” – would come true.
Lu Yin pulled the veil off her head roughly and threw it hard against Liu Zecheng’s face.
She scrambled out the door and the moment the door closed behind her, the waterworks started.
Lu Yin drove a friend’s car and charged towards the road.
The wind outside gradually grew stronger, the clouds gathered together to cover the sun and the world suddenly fell into darkness.
Not long afterwards, thunder crackled. It was raining cats and dogs.
Lu Yin’s vision was blurry, either from the rain outside the window or from her own tears that blurred her eyesight.
The wedding was ruined. The mistress was already pregnant and she became a joke to the entire world.
She had been distorted, crazy just now, like a woman scorned. She had never been so disoriented, always gentle and appropriate, understanding. The hand she used to slap the woman’s face just now was still numb right now.
But no matter how numb it was, it wasn’t as numb as her heart.
Lu Yin increased her speed, lost and directionless.
She felt as if she was a madman rushing through, using the car’s speed as a way to get the emotions off her chest.
It was as if a hidden bomb was ticking in her brain. Any random thing could trigger her explosion.
There was an intersection upfront. Lu Yin was on the left side of the road wanting to make a turn and smacked the left blinker on. She had a few seconds before the traffic light turned red, she wanted to step on it and go full throttle. Unexpectedly, a van cut in front of her and stopped right under the red traffic light.
Lu Yin was shocked and quickly stepped on the brakes. It was too late; her left bumper skidded across the flower bed on the roadside.
Triggered.
Lu Yin clenched her fists, not caring about how she looked and crawled out from the passenger side.
The van in front was stationary. Rain and mist trailed down the windows, it didn’t look real.
She slammed the window twice, “Get off.”
After a while, the window was rolled down.
On the passenger seat was a person, bald, with a scar on his forehead, staring down the woman outside the window.
A cigarette rested diagonally in his mouth, unlit. His thumb casually flicked the gear on the lighter and a burst of fire flickered in the curtain of rain. At first glance, he didn’t seem to be a good person.
After a long time, the man spoke in his hoarse voice, “Something wrong?”
Lu Yin stepped back unconsciously, her anger was extinguished by the rain. For some reason, a series of numbers flashed in her mind: 0852.
The man’s line of sight did not stray from Lu Yin. Her wedding dress was wet from the rain, stuck on like a second skin and her breasts were half-exposed. Raindrops slipped between the valley of her breasts, creating an illusion of temptation.
He stared at her chest for a long time, laughing as he asked, “Want a ride?”
“… That’s not it.” Lu Yin finally regained her thoughts. She bit her lip.
The person inside nodded.
Lu Yin, “How do I get to Huaichong Road?”
Lu Qiang snorted. He lit his cigarette and rested his elbow on the window frame, blowing a puff at her and didn’t answer.
Lu Yin frowned and took a step back.
Lu Qiang motioned to the front with his chin, “Are you hitting on me, huh, lady?”
Lu Yin’s eyes followed him. In the rain and fog, a huge sign hung in front with words that were clearly visible: Huaichong Road — 500m ahead.
