Chapter 10 – The Wedding is Cancelled

A week later.

The situation calmed down. Lu Yin took a long break and holed herself in the rental room that she had been living in for five years.

She was haggard, washing her face with tears every day. She didn’t go out, didn’t shower and was occasionally in a trance, still unable to accept reality.

She had dedicated her entire heart to dating Liu Zecheng these few years. While their romance wasn’t passionate and tumultuous, it was full of warmth despite its ordinariness. She thought that they would accompany each other until they grow old. She didn’t expect that he would one day betray her.

Lu Yin still dared not recall how that day ended.

The first time she was in a fiery rage in her twenty or so years of life, it was extinguished by a man she had met only two times. She was slapped back to consciousness and fled the scene, reluctantly driving back to the hotel parking lot.

To a certain extent, Lu Ying admitted that she was timid and fearful. She detested the ways of the world but kept her resentment in her heart. She also had a slight tendency to bully the weak and fear the strong when picking a fight. She rarely lost her composure and it was her first time actually hitting someone. Lu Yin was an ordinary young woman, not a saint. She had been too contaminated by society and its conduct. She was scared of making an embarrassment of herself, she cared about what other people thought and she cared about others pointing behind her back.

Gripping the steering wheel, shivers running from head to toe, she finally calmed down. She could no longer be scared, instead, she worried about how this farce would end.

At that time, the ceremony had not yet begun. There weren’t many guests, only relatives of both parties and several colleagues from the garment factory.

She ran into Ye Fan, her good friend who had been waiting for her, in the parking lot. She wore the clothes she had brought and told her best friend to do the work and inform everyone that the wedding was cancelled. Not once did she appear.

After Ye Fan left, the car was scarily silent. A pale and feeble face was reflected in the rearview mirror. Her makeup was messy and the beautiful lipstick was now smudged on the side of her face.

She took out some tissue to wipe it off but those lip stains were stubborn and difficult to remove. Just like these seven years were difficult to erase even if she wanted to. Lu Yin fought against herself, heavy-handed. The lipstick stain gradually faded, but her delicate skin was red from the excessive force.

She looked at her face in the mirror and couldn’t help but be struck with sadness.

After escorting the other guests home, she returned to the new house. It was filled with the Liu family’s relatives. Liu Zecheng had persuaded the mistress to leave and he was slumped on the sofa with his head down.

Everything happened so suddenly. Although he was to blame, his mother secretly complained that Lu Yin left without permission without seeing the situation. Lu Yin’s aunt shouted that the other party should compensate for moral damages, her uncle was just sitting quietly. Nobody cared about how Lu Yin was feeling. Ye Fan was unhappy, pointing at the Liu family and scolding them.

Suddenly, the house was in irresolvable chaos.

Liu Zecheng stood up and pulled Lu Yin away.

Lu Yin resisted, but she wasn’t strong enough and was pulled into the corridor.

He was still wearing the black suit for the wedding, neat tailoring, excellent fabric. It made his good physique even more slender and tall. His tie was loose and crooked to one side, and he was obviously slightly irritated.

He looked down at her and did not speak.

They had slept in the same bed last night. In just one night, Lu Yin suddenly felt that this man was a stranger.

After a while, Liu Zecheng finally said, “Yinyin, do you have to cancel the wedding?”

“What do you expect me to do?”

Liu Zecheng didn’t dare look into her eyes and instead stared at the hem of her clothes, “She and I, we were just playing around, only we were careless…” He paused, unable to find the words, “We realized too late, then when we went to abort the child, they said it would be dangerous for her… that’s why the situation turned out this way today.”

Lu Yin clenched her fists. Every word out of his mouth seemed to cut her heart.

He continued, “We’ve been together for six, seven years. You should be able to feel whether I love you or not. This was really only a moment of confusion…” He had no idea what to do with his hands and feet, finally putting a hand on his forehead, “I hope you can forgive me.”
