Chapter 47: The Impossible Surgery

Everyone looked at her in surprise.

“It’s not your first time? What?”

“Ah, I didn’t mean that I led this surgery in the past. I meant that I thought about this method since a while back.”

Elise continued.

“From some time ago, I read several medical books because I wanted to be a doctor. From Graham’s studies, to theories…I studied many books.”

It was a complete lie. Elise didn’t even read romance novels, let alone medical books. All she had read were the books she crammed in a week before working at the hospital.

“And I thought. Wouldn’t it be better to treat it this way than how it’s written in the book? Then it could be totally treated. I had those kinds of thoughts.”

“…”

It was hard to believe.

A 16 year old, no, since it was a while back, an even younger girl had read medical books, and found new methods of treatment, let alone being able to understand it?

‘…I guess they don’t believe me.’ Elise inwardly sighed. She knew that her lie didn’t make sense either. But she couldn’t think of a lie that did. She was a doctor, not a skilled liar. So she added on.

“Splenectomy is one of those methods of treatment. I thought that even if it’s a bad injury, if the spleen itself is removed and the blood pathways are tied, wouldn’t that work? It could cause problems with the immune system, but the patient’s life comes first.”

“Yes, that’s a good theory. But it’s completely different from actually performing it. How were you able to do this difficult surgery?”

Elise answered Gote’s question. It was obviously another lie.

“I continued thinking about it in my head. How I should approach removing the spleen. I continued to think about it, and I performed the surgery according to how I thought.”

“!!!”

Elise shut her mouth after finishing her explanation. Everyone looked at her in surprise and were left speechless. ‘That’s impossible. That can’t be.’ Director Gote muttered to himself. It was unbelievable. She had thought of the splenectomy just by reading a book and even thought about how to specifically go through with it?

But…

They looked at the girl standing politely there. The surgeon herself said that…so what was there they could say? ‘Haaaa. Is this girl a genius like Count Graham or Fleming? Really?’ What she said meant one thing.

Genius. It meant that she wasn’t just an outstanding intellectual, but someone who wasn’t able to be understood with logic. And it wasn’t like there weren’t any geniuses in the past.

The ‘establisher’ Count Graham. And the Great Alchemist, Fleming.

Graham, who had been silently listening, opened his mouth to speak.

“What this child said is probably true.”

“…?!”

“It hasn’t been too long, but from what I’ve seen as her teacher, she isn’t someone to lie. And also…I believe that that is completely possible considering her talents. She has the most knowledge and skills of any doctors I’ve met.”

“…!”

Gote’s eyes shook. The prideful Grayam never complimented anyone. But he was giving her this high praise?

“She entered as my disciple, but this child has nothing to learn from me.”

And Grayam paused. Bitterness swept past his face, and he opened his mouth again.

“She’s already surpassed me.”

“…!”

Ben and Gote were surprised for the nth time today. Grayam was an outstanding young doctor receiving the praise of the medical field. But this young girl surpassed him?

“Hu hu…”

Viscount Ben let out laughs in disbelief. And how much time had passed. He drank a sip of the tea on the table. The cooled down red tea calmed his confused state of mind.

The royal physician looked at the girl. That girl was a genius?
