How We Love - Volume 2 Chapter 9
Chapter 9 – A Lonesome Birthday
Xu Zhifei came to the salon again for Mu Xiaonian and again, Mu Xiaonian wasn’t there. The head stylist told Xu Zhifei that Wu Jiaying had brought him to some fashion show.
Xu Zhifei was very disappointed. The head stylist couldn’t bear to see her down, so he stood up and volunteered, “I’ll call him and ask when he’ll come back!”
Xu Zhifei smiled a lonely smile, “Forget it, I can call him myself. Don’t rush him, let him build his reputation in the fashion industry.”
Before Xu Zhifei left, she took out a large White Rabbit Candy from her pocket and handed it to the head stylist, “Here, have a candy!”
She left the shop, headed down the road and, after a long walk, she made a U-turn and walked to the cafe across Mu Xiaonian’s salon. On an occasion such as today, she didn’t know who else she could celebrate it with other than Mu Xiaonian and she didn’t know where to either. She ordered a cup of coffee and sat in front of the window seat, staring at the doorbell on the door of the shop across the street dazedly.
That was the doorbell she had bought Mu Xiaonian.
The world really had a way to play with people. In the past, the gap between them was so big and he couldn’t climb up to her. Now, it was the other way around – the gap between them increased, but it was because she had fallen, while he was walking closer and closer to the spotlight.
Faced with the growing distance, there were some matters, some emotions, that she had actually realized but didn’t have the courage to put her cards on the table. So she could only sit here, alone, waiting.
She didn’t know how long she waited, she only knew that it was already very late and the cafe was about to close. Finally, she saw a luxurious car driving Mu Xiaonian back. Heh, it was the same car that her dad used to drive. She used to refuse to ride in a non-luxury car, but now she couldn’t even afford to sit in it.
He stepped off the car, she looked at him carefully. He was no longer the blushing young boy; she was now full of enthusiasm, handsome and charming and people would respectfully address him as Director Mu everywhere he went. She watched Wu Jiaying come down from the car and courteously bid him goodbye. Even in the distance, her affection for him was palpable.
What a pair! Xu Zhifei sighed and got up silently to leave the cafe. She walked aimlessly along the street for a long, long time. She unknowingly found herself in the place she used to live. The mansion was under a different owner now. Its former owner, her father, because he couldn’t stand the blow, had gone up the mountain, relieving himself of the secular world and his family. Now, in this world, she had no one left to celebrate her birthday with her.
Her life used to be so noble and novel, but now it was bleak and had taken a downturn. Xu Zhifei found it extremely absurd. She couldn’t help but laugh, laughed until her eyes started to get hot.
A car was driving out of the residential area. She was very familiar with the car. It was Yi Hua’s.
Yi Hua had also seen her and stopped the car close to her. He rolled down the window and asked whether she wanted a ride. Xu Zhifei thought about it and agreed, she was so tired from walking. She got into the car naturally and told him her current address.
Yi Hua looked at her from the rearview mirror while driving. After observing her for a while, he couldn’t resist talking, “To be honest, I thought you would hate me so much you wouldn’t as much breathe in this direction.”
Xu Zhifei smiled at him faintly, “If I really do hate you to that extent, that means I still love you. But I don’t love you anymore.”
Yi Hua stared at her intently from the rearview mirror, “Then who are you in love with now? That hairdresser?”
Xu Zhifei looked back at him through the rearview mirror, “Treat him politely, don’t lose your temper because he won’t serve you.”
Yihua smiled a little awkwardly.
They drove to where Xu Zhifei lived. After Xu Zhifei got out of the car, she walked to the front of the car and knocked on the window. Yi Hua rolled down the window. Xu Zhifei bent down, smiled and told him, “That question you asked me just now, I thought about it on the way. I think you might be right.”
