Chapter 8 – Bringing Him Home

Cai Xin glanced back at Xiao Mei who had beat her to it. She gritted her teeth and told Zhang Heran, “Fine, do it! Do it!”

Zhang Heran started acting cute as he got what he wanted. Pouting his lips, he teased, “Senior Sister, why did you bother stalling in the first place? When my rates were low you rejected me no matter what. Now that my fees have increased, you’re so quick to accept.”

Cai Xin’s mouth twitched, “I’m stupid, I’m despicable, I’m mentally retarded, happy?”

Zhang Heran pondered and said seriously, “There’s one more missing.”

Cai Xin’s pitch increased towards the end, “What’s missing?”

Zhang Heran sincerely said, “Unbearably stubborn, surlier than a donkey.”

Cai Xin was furious, “That’s obviously two things!”

***

Cai Xin brought Zhang Heran home for the Chinese New Year. Two things happened beyond her expectations.

The first thing was, the moment they arrived home, her parents looked at the baby-faced youth that she had brought home and flown into a rage. Her dad was spot on, “So young. You lured him home with money to come back here, right?”

Cai Xin was caught off guard at the sudden attack. She hummed and hawed. At the critical moment, Zhang Heran stood up, “Uncle, it has nothing to do with money. I don’t lack money, I just really, really, really like her!”

Maybe it was because he had positioned his firm and affectionate gaze accurately that time, unexpectedly, these spur-of-the-moment lies of his had actually managed to convince her parents.

The second thing was, as they were leaving, her parents were reluctant to part with Zhang Heran as if he was their actual son-in-law.

Cai Xin had to give it to him, Zhang Heran was perceptive and was really good at acting despite his age. It only took a few days for him to have the Old Cai couple wrapped around his finger. She really couldn’t figure out how he could end up as a construction worker if he was so capable.

After they returned from home, she paid Zhang Heran his salary in full and did her best to persuade him, telling him heartfelt words, “You’re very talented. You shouldn’t do these things anymore. Even if you loiter around at the entrance of the Beijing Film Academy and start small as an extra, I feel like that has more prospect than what you’re doing now.”

Zhang Heran replied meaningfully as he received the money, “Senior Sister, don’t be so quick to abandon me. Who knows, maybe you’ll need me in the future. We’ll meet again for sure!”

Cai Xin sincerely knocked on wood. There was no way she would willingly continue whatever relations she had with this scary Junior Brother. Afterwards, Zhang Heran’s presence still lingered around her even if he wasn’t physically there.

A few days later, Yue Sisi asked Cai Xin to have dinner together with her. She told Cai Xin her most recent life troubles, “I broke up with that nouveau riche.” Despite being used to this result, Cai Xin still perfunctorily comforted her. As she provided comfort, for some reason they started talking about blind dates. Cai Xin casually said, “The receptionist at my company introduced me to someone. I’ll be going on a blind date tomorrow.”

The moment Yue Sisi heard this, her spirit immediately returned, “Take me, take me!”

Cai Xin was a little hesitant, Yue Sisi quickly came to back herself up, “I just had my heart broken and you’re leaving me alone by myself while you go out on a blind date, how mean! I’ll go tell your dad, you’re prioritizing love over friendship!”

Cai Xin thought back to the fact that she had a dad while Yue Sisi didn’t, so she reluctantly agreed. As a result, at the blind date in the coffee shop downstairs the next day, the other party immediately liked the lively and beautiful Yue Sisi. The other party invited them to watch a movie, Cai Xin immediately made up an excuse to avoid going. The two left. Cai Xin sat staring blankly in the cafe drinking water when a voice suddenly entered her ears, startling her.

“They left, huh?”

Cai Xin looked up, it was Zhang Heran sitting opposite her with a cup of coffee.

“Why are you here?” Cai Xin’s first thought was, did this devil come to watch her on a blind date? No way…

“You can come here on a blind date but I can’t come here for coffee?” Seeing Zhang Heran raise his eyebrows, Cai Xin suddenly felt the urge to whack him. He suddenly laughed, a tinge of sarcasm laced in it, “Your best friend’s quite interesting. You’re the one on a blind date, yet she dressed herself up more than you, spoke more than you too.”

Cai Xin held her cup. She pursed her lips, finally saying, “Don’t talk nonsense. There are some things that you don’t understand.”
