Chapter 44: Be A Man, Dad! (2)

“You are already awake?”

Old Master Huo cleared his throat. With his proud look gone, he said, “I’m fine; it’s no big deal.”

“The doctor said that although it isn’t serious, your heart is not in good shape. You have to stay in the hospital for a few days this time.”

“I know my body. I don’t need to be hospitalized.”

“It is better for you to stay in the hospital for a few days and have a closer examination.”

“I said no!”

Well, the father and son were at it again in a few words.

Huo Xiaoxiao took her grandfather’s hand and stuttered, “Sick … to… to be hospitalized, to be examined, grandpa be good.”

Chen Bo also eased the atmosphere on one side. “Yes, sir. You see, Xiaoxiao is also aware you are not healthy. Why are you so stubborn?”

Most of the old folks avoided doctors. Old Master Huo really didn’t like the smell of the disinfectant in the hospital, and the white color made him unhappy at a glance.

However, since they were so persistent, coupled with his guilty heart of faking illness, he reluctantly agreed to stay.

“Have a good rest then. I will send someone here from the house. I’ll come to see you tomorrow.”

“Go, go.”

Huo Suicheng looked at his daughter. Huo Xiaoxiao took her grandfather’s hand and said, “Grandpa is sleeping. Xiaoxiao… Tomorrow… Look at Grandpa!”

“Well, Grandpa will wait for Xiaoxiao to come over tomorrow.”

With that, Huo Suicheng came to pick up Huo Xiaoxiao and left the ward. In the middle of the night, the whole hospital was quiet, with occasional repressed coughs. Huo Suicheng held Huo Xiaoxiao with an expressionless face. The sound of shoes tapping the corridor floor was loud and piercing.

Not knowing why, Huo Xiaoxiao felt a little nervous, looking at Huo Suicheng’s suddenly unfathomable face. The lady’s sixth sense told her that he might have known about faking illness and wanted to settle accounts with her.

But what she did was also for the good of her father.

There was nothing to be guilty of!

More importantly, she was only one year old. What did she know? She knew nothing!

On the way back, Huo Xiaoxiao propped up her heart and yawned in the safety seat. “Sleepy…”

“Sleep later.”

“?”

“I heard everything in the ward just now.”

“??!”

“When did I cry? Why don’t I know?”

“…”

“Give me a good explanation. How did you trick me with your grandpa?”

“…”

Eavesdropping?

This is too much.

Now that you have heard everything in the ward, why not ask Grandpa directly? Why are you asking her, a one-year-old child?!

Isn’t this bullying?

Huo Xiaoxiao was in a panic. But she soon calmed down. Thinking that she was still a child, as long as she did not admit it, she would not have any part in this matter.

She shut her eyes and continued to pretend to sleep.

But, she did not know that Huo Suicheng was also not sure whether she had conspired with his father to pretend to be sick. After all, Huo Xiaoxiao was only over a year old. Knowing his father’s character, he was sure that the old man wouldn’t cooperate to pretend to be sick even if the worst thing happened.

But looking at her long eyelashes trembling, she was obviously pretending to be asleep, refusing to face him. In his heart, he probably had an idea that this child was like an adult.

He didn’t know how she grew up in the year he was away.

Huo Suicheng stretched out his hand and gently squeezed her plump cheeks. “Do you want to lie to me again?”

Huo Xiaoxiao’s eyes remained closed.

“Really asleep?” Huo Suicheng smiled without exposing her. “Okay, then get a good night’s sleep.”

Soon, the Huo residence arrived.

Huo Suicheng got out of the car with Huo Xiaoxiao, who was “sleeping”. He first told Aunt Zhao that it was nothing serious and then asked her to arrange people to take care of the old man in the hospital.

After ordering all this, he held Huo Xiaoxiao back to her room.

Huo Xiaoxiao’s room was a standard baby room. The wall color was pink, with dolls and toys everywhere. A large baby bed was placed next to the big bed.

He put Huo Xiaoxiao on the crib and stopped to look up and down the room.

Just when Huo Xiaoxiao thought she had escaped the disaster, she heard Huo Suicheng’s footsteps ringing in her room.

She opened her eyes quietly, squinting into a slit. She saw her cheeky father picking up her little school bag!

This small school bag was filled with gifts that her grandfather had given her over the years.

For example, the safety lock he gave her when he first met her; it was made of gold!

Another example was the massive sum of money that his grandfather gave her during the Spring Festival.

As well as the car keys, villa keys, beautiful necklaces, and a series of other valuable things that she caught during that week.

Even the bracelet that Lu Boyang gave her at the Yonghe Club last time, she had put it inside.

That little school bag was all she had!

So, why was he touching her bag?

Huo Xiaoxiao vaguely felt something amiss.

Huo Suicheng opened her small school bag and looked at it full of precious gifts. He walked to the crib with malicious intent and told Huo Xiaoxiao, who was still pretending to sleep, “You’re still young. These things are easy to lose with you, so Dad will keep them for you and return them to you when you grow up.”

“???”Wait, this is a little familiar.

Huo Xiaoxiao remembered the New Year’s money that would disappear forever.

What… are all adults like this nowadays?

Isn’t his face too thick?

Acting like a bandit in front of her?

What did he mean by keeping it for her?

Wasn’t this a daylight robbery!?

Is there not enough money, or has Huo Group gone bankrupt, forcing him to embezzle her hard-earned money?

Be a man, dad!
