Chapter 37: Dad, Why Aren’t You Happy? (2)

Luming Mountain…

Huo Suicheng closed his eyes.

The problem seemed to be solved, but it never did.

Deception could only last for a while. There would always be a day when lies break apart.

By that time, he and his father were bound to fight.

Click!

A faint sound suddenly rang in the quiet room.

Click, click, click.

The door opened a crack.

Huo Xiaoxiao took advantage of people’s inattention, tiptoed on the small stool, and opened the door of Huo Suicheng’s room.

Huo Suicheng looked at the door as a small hairy head poked in from outside. After looking around for a while, she climbed down the stool, then moved the stool into the room, and put it on beside his bed, presumably to climb on the bed.

But Huo Xiaoxiao’s height was still small even after stepping on the stool, and her legs dangled in the air. After watching for a while from the side, Huo Suicheng shook his head and smiled. Finally, he couldn’t help but step forward and picked up Huo Xiaoxiao.

Huo Xiaoxiao, who was suddenly lifted into the air, was shocked and struggled in Huo Suicheng’s arms.

“Don’t move.”

Huo Suicheng stopped her movements with one sentence and turned on the lights.

Seeing that it was Huo Suicheng who was hugging her, Huo Xiaoxiao was relieved.

Since the room was dark, she assumed that Huo Suicheng had gone to bed and fallen asleep. How could she know that he would hide in the dark and give her a scare?

Huo Suicheng put her on the bed and looked at her from above. “Aren’t you not allowed to come to my room? Why are you here again?”

Huo Xiaoxiao considered whether she should play dumb or not.

Huo Suicheng saw through her at a glance. “I know you are smart and could understand me. Don’t be silly.”

“…” Now that she was seen through, Huo Xiaoxiao admitted generously, “I want to sleep with my father.”

“Why do you want to sleep with me?”

Huo Xiaoxiao rolled up her trouser and pointed to her knee. “It hurts.”

“Delicate.”

“Pain!”

Her injury was striking. Huo Suicheng’s eyebrows slightly puckered as he squatted down in front of the bed. He gently rubbed her purple bruised knee with his palm.

“Daddy will massage this to heal quickly.”

Huo Xiaoxiao looked at Huo Shuicheng up close.

Under the thick black eyelashes, those eyes always seemed to have a gloomy and melancholy that could not be dissolved. The eyebrows were almost always tightly knit and never relaxed.

“Dad, why are you not happy?”

“I’m not unhappy.”

Huo Xiaoxiao reached out and touched Huo Suicheng’s furrowed eyebrows. She frowned. “Why are you doing this?”

His palm stopped rubbing her knee. Huo Suicheng raised his eyes and looked at her wrinkled chubby face. “This is how adults are.”

Huo Xiaoxiao pouted, obviously not believing. “Aunt Zhao is not like that.”

“Because you make Aunt Zhao happy.”

“Then, I can also make you happy!”

Huo Suicheng’s eyebrows relaxed, and he lowered his head for a short laugh. “I’m not unhappy.”

“Liar.”

“Why would I lie to you?”

“You lied to Grandpa.”

“Adults lie.”

“Not good.”

Huo Suicheng smiled. “This is the instinct of life.”

Huo Xiaoxiao frowned, seemingly unable to understand.

Huo Suicheng didn’t hope for her to understand. “Do you still want to hang out with me in the future?”

Huo Xiaoxiao’s frown deepened.

Huo Suicheng laughed out loud, “Stingy.”

He lifted the quilt and motioned Huo Xiaoxiao to sleep in. “Do not wet the bed tonight, do you hear me?”

Huo Xiaoxiao, who was climbing into the quilt, turned red at his words.

Hateful! Just now, she felt that this father was good, and then, he turned back to his true character, which was a nuisance!

Huo Suicheng watched her squeeze into the bed without looking up, covering her head. He knew that she was shy, so he opened the quilt and said, “Okay, no one is laughing at you. Close your eyes and go to bed quickly. I’ll take you to the amusement park someday.”

She didn’t care about amusement parks or anything.

Instead, she looked at Huo Suicheng with her eyes wide-opened. “Dad, Grandpa, he…”

Huo Suicheng lay down beside her. “Sleep.”

“…Oh.”

The night outside the window was darker, and the moon hid in dark clouds.

The child beside him breathed smoothly.

In the dark, Huo Suicheng opened his eyes and turned to look at Huo Xiaoxiao, who was sleeping soundly.

This child would always sweat when sleeping at night. The hair on her forehead was wet and stuck to it. Sometimes, she raised her hands unconsciously to swipe them away. She seemed uncomfortable.

He stretched out his hand and gently caressed her small forehead. He brushed back her fine hair and wiped the sweat with his palm
