The Lady’s Facade was Ruined - Chapter 20
Chapter 20: The Second Exam
During Huo Cheng’s previous life, he had seen Shen Wanying’s Weibo post regarding the field trip. In fact, there wasn’t really anything special about the short post, but Huo Cheng could recall it because Shen Wanying didn’t update her Weibo for a whole month after that.
Just as Huo Cheng was thinking about reaching out to her with a personal message to check in on her, Shen Wanying had finally updated her Weibo. On the new post, she had shared that she had been injured for a while and was recuperating at home for a whole month. Now, she was finally recovering.
She hadn’t specified what injuries she had suffered from and Huo Cheng had wanted to ask her, but in the end felt that it wasn’t too appropriate. In the end, he merely ended up giving her post a thumbs up as a sign of support.
After they got married, Huo Cheng found out that Shen Wanying had a small scar across her back. When he’d asked, she’d told him that she had gotten this wound during the field trip she went on during the second year of high school. The wound on her back wasn’t anything serious, but unfortunately, she’d bruised her face as well.
Though the wound she had on her face wasn’t too deep, the area was a bit large, especially after it began to scab. The appearance of it had just become scarier to look at. Shen Wanying didn’t want to go out sporting such an appearance, let alone go to school.
She’d carefully tended to the healing scabs at home for about a month and making sure to take good care of her face. Fortunately, there weren’t any scars after the scab had fallen off and her complexion had returned to normal day by day.
It was probably all thanks to all the nourishment she’d applied on her face the whole month. On the other hand, the wound on her back had left a small scar. Since there wasn’t really a way that most people would have the chance to see the wound on her back, Shen Wanying didn’t pay too much mind to it.
Huo Cheng knew all the information needed to figure out what had happened during the trip, but he didn’t know the specific time when Shen Wanying got injured.
Based on Shen Wanying’s description, she fell from a tree, sprained her foot, and fell down once again on her way back.
The field trip was only a day trip and Huo Cheng believed that Shen Wanying wouldn’t go out to climb a tree at night. So, he thought, as long as he kept his eyes on her during the day, he could prevent her getting hurt like she had before.
“As everyone knows, the third year students won’t have any more field trips. So, this will be our last field trip. I hope everyone will be able to participate during all aspects of the activities.”
Shen Wanying’s voice coming from the front of the class pulled Huo Cheng back from his thoughts.
“It’ll be the same as last year. We will have to cook our own lunch since Starlight Farm will only provide ten dishes at noon and it definitely won’t be enough for all of us to eat. All those who can cook, please be sure to actively take part in helping out in the kitchen. For those who can’t cook, there will be cultural performances that you can participate in the evening. You can go to the Cultural Committee to sign up for that.”
As Shen Wanying finished her speech, some students called out loudly, “The dry pot fish1 that Ji Yao made last time was delicious. I’ve been craving it for about a year, and now it’s finally time!”
As some people started excitedly conversing, others also rushed to join the lively discussion, “Yes, that fish was really delicious. This time Ji Yao should make it for everyone!”
All of the students looked over at Ji Yao, who was still busy solving his practice exam questions. Without even lifting his head, he replied coldly, “No, there are important exams to take next week. I don’t want to be distracted.”
All of their classmates looked at him speechlessly. “……”
Don’t.. usually he can get the first place even if he doesn’t study (not counting last time). Now that he is studying so much, whose total score do you think he wants to beat?
Many people’s eyes intentionally or unintentionally fell on the main culprit, Huo Cheng. Shen Wanying gave a light cough to gain everyone’s attention back towards her, “We won’t force you to do it. It’s voluntary for everyone to participate.”
A student laughed and spoke out, “It doesn’t matter. If worst comes to worst, we learned how to cook hot pot in Class 7 last time.”
Cooking hot pot is indeed the easiest way. Shen Wanying kept this as an alternative. If there isn’t enough staff to cook, we will cook hot pot. “For the students who didn’t participate last time, I hope you can participate enthusiastically this time from now on until next Friday. That’s all for today, everyone can leave.”
Everyone quickly walked out of the class as school had finally ended. In the blink of an eye, there were only a few people left in the classroom. Shen Wanying started packing up her things as she noticed Huo Cheng hadn’t yet, so she stepped towards him and asked him, “Huo Cheng, can you cook?”
Huo Cheng nodded, “Mm.”
After he got married to Shen Wanying, he cooked whenever he had time, so he knew Shen Wanying’s taste very well.
Hearing him say this, Shen Wanying cheerfully said, “Then, would you like to cook on the field trip? I think since you just transferred here, you still aren’t too familiar with the classmates. This field trip is a good opportunity for you to blend with the classmates.”
Huo Cheng didn’t care whether he could get along with his classmates, but he still wanted to support Shen Wanying’s work so he responded casually, “I can do it.”
“That’s great!” Recently, Shen Wanying had found out that Huo Cheng was cold on the outside, but in reality quite warm on the inside. Unexpectedly, he was also pretty easy to talk to. “You can prepare about three dishes. There should be other students who will take part in cooking, so when the time comes, everyone will discuss together how to get it done.”
“Ok.” Huo Cheng thought for a bit before asking Shen Wanying, “Then can you be my assistant?”
Shen Wanying asked, “Do you need me to help you cook in the kitchen? When I said I can cook, I really meant it. Though I’m not very good at it. So, don’t despise me.”
“I won’t. It’s settled then.”
“Okay. Do you still want to perform?”
Huo Cheng: “……”
“Hahaha, I’m joking.” Shen Wanying laughed out loud. It was a little hard for her to imagine Huo Cheng putting on a show.
The upcoming field trip was more or less affecting the students’ mood in learning, but nobody could escape the exam.
Two days prior to the field trip, the current semester’s second monthly exam pulled open its heavy curtain. Owing to the results of the last exam, Huo Cheng had achieved a leap in class ranking and been directly promoted from the last examination room to the first one.
The top forty students from all years were in this examination room. In the past, Ji Yao was always sitting in the first row. But now, Huo Cheng was sitting there.
Ji Yao sat behind Huo Cheng and silently turned the pen in his hand. The two men hadn’t exchanged any words, yet it seemed that there was invisible smoke in the air. The other students in the examination room didn’t dare to speak loudly.
