Chapter 26- The Main Duty of the Student (4)

Isn’t the school vacation is taking place after this month? Then surely, without a doubt, Zevedi is conducting a surprise writing quiz on his magic subject this week.

“Really?”

“Yes, the dean loves surprises, and most of the time, he evaluates his students without prior notice. I heard that some had labeled him as a bad-tempered guy”, Behemoth said.

“Then, how can I prepare myself for such a quiz?” Clayo asked.

“As I’ve observed, when the older man is conducting an examination, he usually inserts magic-related questions that otherwise no longer part in a given magic textbook. I knew it, but if you could memorize the first volume of the Magic Dictionary correctly, then you should get a perfect score.”

“Can I borrow the Magic Dictionary from the library?”

“No way, you should know what kind of books the library has! Until now, they haven’t provided the necessary supplementary materials. Rather, call the messenger quickly and tell him to buy all three copies of Magic Dictionary, new editions. You could better handle the exam if you are equipped and prepared ahead.” The cat said while punching the boy.

“First thing, first. Do you have an idea regarding mantras and magic formulas? Have you seen magic before? Or, could you tell the difference if you might see it?”

“Well, I saw dean Jevedi was performing his unique magic before. He opened a light circle, made a magical float, and said a word. Then my blood stopped at once.”

“Well, that’s one of his specialties. So have you figured it out how it works?”

“No. Not really.”

“So that’s the essence of letting you acquainted with mantras and magic formulas. Have you tried memorizing those formulas before?”

The power of the bribe was genuinely excellent. Behemoth, the cat, was nodding while looking at the ceiling and floor intermittently, and then, he was staring at the empty wine bottle. Afterward, the cat regained its composure.

“Well, I know what it was. The magic formulas were enchantments or a form of sorcery that combines magic formula with ether, which the initiator may use for a divine purpose. That was how Zevedi did when he combined ether with his magic formula. That’s how magic works.”

Behemoth had no idea that Clayo was memorizing the magic textbook with the help of the ‘Memory’ function. He did it without any single phrase mistaken and prompted Behemoth to observed him with a countenance full of surprise.

“Okay, but memorizing alone doesn’t mean you know how to use magic, right?”

In the novel, there was no reference for wizards other that Jevedi, who was performing healing magics. Although healing magic was a remarkable ability, it was challenging to acquire. It was beneficial only for research and study but not useful for combat purposes because it took time to activate and quite useful only if the target was within the range of a magic circle.

The cat sighed, and it furthered, “I can’t tell whether you’re a stupid or a smart boy. Okay, we simplify the matter easily by comparing it to a gun. Just like a gun, magic also has a process of loading to launch something. So, you just need a bullet to shoot. Don’t you get it? You’re such a fool if you don’t know that!”

“Yes!!!”

The cat continued, “Then how could you make bullets? It is only through memorizing the magic formulas completely and reached a spiritual level to a point where you could instantly use a blank paper and turn it as your bullet.”

“Okay, is there anything else that I must do aside from that?”

“In the meantime, concentrating on memorizing the formulas will suffice to make you a good wizard. A first-year student like you naturally can’t open a circle, but eventually, you can do it through continuous effort. But before that, you should have already memorized the magic formulas or your mantras in advance because that’s how things will follow after you can open a magical circle.”

“I see!”

“Well, it might be too late for you if you will do it later. The first volume of the “Magic Dictionary” alone has a hundred pages enough to trouble you. But if you should do it, your freshman year is over.

“A hundred?… Okay.”

Clayo’s mouth went up a little farther. It seemed he was confident he could do it since he tested it already while reading the novel.

Though in reality, it was impossible to imitate anything artistic like the artist’s paintings. But in Jeongjin’s case, the magical set of shapes and characters from the manuscript were absorbed by him into his mind clearly and vividly. The memory cheat was indeed well around the input.

It’s hard but entirely possible. The problem is, I don’t know where to start and how to deal with it.

“One more thing. There are no mantras in the textbook. Should I look for them in the Magic Dictionary?” Clayo asked.

“Well, magic formulas originally came from the outside world, and all of them have written on the Magic Dictionary. However, mantras were made different following each wizard, and they are unique. ”

“Uh, I’m not good at writing and editing words.”
