The Duchess and the Devil - Chapter 99.2
– And, of course, I know that you fell in love with me at first sight.
Judith’s voice trembled as she recalled her conversation with Vincent:
– You… Heard? No. Were you there?
Derry looked at the confused Duchess and smiled sweetly, expressing a positive answer. However, without waiting for his wife to continue speaking, he suddenly took her hand. Judith’s body lit up with physical contact, which is not easy to see in the social world.
– Derrick…
– I Wanna Hold Your Hand.
– But they’re looking at us. Will everything be okay?
It seemed like Derrick was adding fuel to an already burning flame. However, he didn’t pay attention to his actions, doing only what he really wanted.
Eventually, Count Laurent approached them. Surprised, Judith tried to hide her clasped hands behind her back, but Derrick held her tightly. Even when greeting the man, the demon did not let go of his wife, as if he was attached to her forever. Finding this unusual, the Count said:
– This is young Lady Lipis, isn’t it? Why are you two…
The man looked at their faces one by one. In fact, he was well aware of the rumors. But the Count wanted to see for himself.
Derrick smiled widely.
– Yes?
However, seeing such a reaction, the Earl sincerely hesitated and looked around, trying to find help from those around him. No one came up, remaining observers on the sidelines. Derrick looked at the delay in the Earl’s response and slowly smiled. If there was power in the look, Lauren would have already died from strangulation. Derrick emitted a terrifying aura, which made the Earl swallow his saliva.
“Why don’t you answer?” The Duke leaned forward slightly, causing a dark shadow to fall on the short Earl. “The lady is beautiful, isn’t she?”
The scene created an optical illusion, as if Loren had been swallowed by a demon.
– Ha-ha, – hysterical laughter. – True! Lady Lipis is very beautiful and sweet, – said the Count, trembling.
– I think so too.
“Then I’ll leave,” the man immediately left, realizing that he couldn’t win this verbal battle.
Judith watched the running man and sighed easily.
– Why did you ask this question?
“This is fun,” Derrick said, lifting his clasped hands and pressing his lips to the back of Judith’s hand.
The place he touched became hot, as if it had been burned. The Count and his sharp gaze disappeared into thin air.
– This is my first time with you in this body. But I will do everything the same.
Suddenly, Judith remembered how Derrick had behaved earlier at the banquet, so it wasn’t so surprising now. The Duchess couldn’t help but laugh when she thought about it. Before, when the demon wasn’t there, the surroundings and their gazes seemed terribly uncomfortable and terrifying. Now, it was all bearable. She really didn’t care: her soul felt only peace and happiness.
Everyone around was busy looking at the newlywed couple.
“Excuse me,” someone appeared from the crowd.
The people around muttered and held their breath. Judith immediately noticed this and turned around. The man in the crowd was none other than the Viscount.
