The Duchess and the Devil - Chapter 87.2
– What’s happened? “Once again,” he asked more insistently.
— She wanted to say something to the Master. She is waiting for you in the office.
– Judith?
Vincent was amazed by this news, after which he immediately went to the office.
In fact, he simply could not believe the maid’s words until he saw Judith sitting on the sofa. Only then did Vincent realize that it was true.
– Judith?
The sister slowly turned her head, and the Marquis, trying to calm his surprise, headed towards the sofa. This was the first time she left the bedroom and visited the office on her own. Sitting opposite, Vincent asked:
– Did you want to tell me something?
The cup in front of Judith was full, but there was no steam coming from it. It was clear that she had been waiting for her brother for a long time.
– I wanted to do something.
— Go somewhere? If there is such a place, just tell me.
– Yes…
Vincent knew little about depression, but he definitely understood: it is a deep mental illness. That is why the Marquis simply could not imagine what Judith was experiencing inside at that moment, because her suffering could not be compared with the feelings of an ordinary person. They said the swamp of depression is so deep that not everyone can cope with it.
But the fact that Judith herself stood up and overcame all this path was amazing and touching.
– And what is this place?
– Temple.
At best, Vincent imagined a picturesque forest lake or a bookstore on the outskirts of the city. But his sister’s answer surprised him.
– Temple?
– Yes. I want to go to the temple.
The Marquis thought about his sister’s past and doubted it, because Judith had never been an extremely religious person. And the place chosen for the first steps to get out of depression seemed extremely strange in such a context.
“Then tomorrow we will go to the temple together.”
“No,” Judith shook her head without a smile on her face. – I want to go alone.
– But Judith…
“It’s okay,” the girl interrupted any worries. “If you’re worried about me, you can assign me an escort.” But I just want to go to the temple alone.
A heavy silence reigned in the office. Vincent looked at his sister with a complex look.
“Isn’t that something I don’t have to worry about?”
Judith noticed that her brother had been extremely worried about her own life lately. But the Duchess did not know what could happen in the temple, so she wanted to go there alone to test her claim.
“Okay,” Vincent finally agreed. – It’s late today, so you’ll go tomorrow. Instead of myself, as you said, I will attach an escort.
Nodding briefly in response, Judith sighed with relief. Vincent could hardly tear his eyes away from the lively reaction of his sister, whom he saw for the first time in about six months.
