The Duchess and the Devil - Chapter 33.1
The girl did not understand why he was so calm, because even if Derrick is the devil, it is still a matter of life and death. Looking at her husband, Judith said:
“If Hannibal is with us and wants to kill you, then… Why don’t we do it sooner?”
Now was indeed the right time to attack: although Derrick was in the body of a man with no special magical powers, Hannibal was in the same position. So the devil is also trapped.
“Well…” Derrick laughed as he saw Judith’s determined and serious expression, as if she was on a battlefield and had to make a strategic decision. At the same time, her cheeks trembled angrily, making her look like a squirrel.
Looking at this, the Duke just couldn’t help it. It was interesting for him to look at his wife and her emotions, which succeeded each other. Derrick touched the girl’s cheek, squeezing gently.
“Perhaps we can do that,” he said, stroking Judith and moving his fingers to her lips.
Derrick just couldn’t contain his emotions as he breathed in his wife’s lovely scent: sweet-floral. He barely restrained the instinct that said so: open her plump lips. But Judith’s shining eyes were reassuring.
He was pleased to hear her heartbeat, so calm and soothing.
“Then why are you speaking so uncertainly?”
“I’m still not sure if his magic is over or not.
– What about the curse? How does it work?
“A curse is a contract entered into by an evil devil without the consent of a person. And now I can’t find out exactly who the bearer of the contract is. It’s like sending a letter without an address and waiting for a response. And Hannibal’s curse… It’s more complex.
Why not?
“I, the owner of the body, and the person who committed the crime are bound together. If the curse is lifted and I remain strong, I still need to be careful not to die again.
Judith slowly considered what she had said and tried to understand how this magic works: everything was too complicated and confusing.
“Then… You are trapped in your own curse, right? And soon you can die because of some mistake? – Judith tried to put all the information on the shelves, and Derrick nodded, agreeing with everything said. “And you can only destroy Hannibal if you restore your powers?”
He nodded in the affirmative again.
Judith lowered her head again, trying to sort through the information she had received. Yet she still didn’t understand why Derrick remained so calm even in what looked like a massacre situation. She seemed to be even more worried than he was.
Judith understood one thing for sure. She began to forget: even if now Derrick looks like a man, inside – the devil. And a man should not adapt to the norms and rules of this world or take into account human emotions. And, apparently, calmness in such a situation is the true trait of the devils.
“So we need to keep my recovery running smoothly,” Derrick said suddenly, causing Judith’s face to flush and her heart to race.
