Chapter 195: Deceiving Uncle Sheng (94)

Su Huang had thought the five-claw insect incident had come to an end, so he’d stopped thinking about it. But from Ji Xili’s words, it now seemed Sheng Qianmo had planned to protect Shu Nuan all along.

What else could they say, he thought.

After their conversation, Ji Xili’s mouth tasted sour. She stood silent in the hall for a long time. At last, she left without saying anything.

***

Sheng Qianmo didn’t go anywhere that day, staying in Sheng Courtyard. He grabbed a crumpled paper lying at the bottom of her book bag. He opened it and stared at it for a long time.

After that, he copied the crumpled report with his own hands.

When Shu Nuan woke up, she found Sheng Qianmo writing at the desk against the windowsill. She didn’t think much about it, but she could see the folded paper lying on the desk.

Shu Nuan frowned and walked over.

She sat down opposite Sheng Qianmo and looked at his words with drooping eyelids, her lips about to move.

Sheng Qianmo didn’t look up. As he wrote, he whispered, “Till your hands are not fixed, This Prince will write what you want.”

Nuan looked up at him. After a moment, Qianmo raised his eyes toward her.

“Hungry?”

Shu Nuan didn’t answer him. She went back to the inner hall to change. But since her right hand had been broken, many day-to-day tasks had become difficult, including changing her clothes.

She pulled the cuffs in half, but then a hand stretched out from behind her and began aiding her.

Shu Nuan looked down at the hand rubbing her abdomen.

Sheng Qianmo bowed his head and held her face in his hands. His lips touched her lips lightly.

“Shu Nuan, it was my fault, all right?”

Shu Nuan raised her eyes and stared straight into his eyes. He returned her gaze.

After a while, Shu Nuan blinked. She couldn’t help it. Her eyes were wet and moist. After a long time, Shu Nuan’s lips moved and she said in a low voice, “But you lied to me.”

After saying this, Shu Nuan pushed away his hand, turned around, and went out before he could reply.

In the next two days, Sheng Qianmo had little time to stay in his courtyard.

Shu Nuan lay on the couch, reading a book. A’Cai ran in and told her that a classmate had come to visit.

Shu Nuan’s spirits were a little roused. She put down her book and wore her shoes. As she’d guessed, the guests were Wen Zhigu and Qi Yue’s group.

After several days of frustration, her heart finally felt light.

When Li Yuan heard that her friends wanted to take her out to relax, he frowned and said, “Miss, the Prince didn’t say that you can go out…”

Qi Yue refuted, “It’s just a walk around the city. Where can we run off to?”

Li Yuan hesitated for a while before stopping his protests, although he still planned to follow them silently to prevent any accidents.

The sky was rarely sunny those days, but on this day there was no snow. Warm sunshine fell on the shore of the lake, and the shadows of the trees swayed with the wind.

While Qi Yue went to buy snacks with Su Hai, Shu Nuan and Wen Zhigu sat under a tree and gazed at the lake. Zhigu turned to look at Nuan’s injured right hand. After a long time, she muttered, “If I knew this would happen, I would not have let you go to Southern Xinjiang.”
