Chapter 192: Deceiving Uncle Sheng (91)
Sheng Qianmo’s eyes were cold and deep as a pool. He stared at her without saying a word.
He looked into her eyes, which were clear, without any ripples of emotion.
He was silent as he reached over to take the broken shards from her hand, before wiping the blood from her fingers. He continued to rub them even after the blood came off, as if he was trying to wash something else off.
Shu Nuan bowed her head and looked at Qianmo holding her fingers. She did not pull back with force, but after a little while, she withdrew her hand.
She was right in front of her and by his side, but she had pushed him out of her heart without a word. This, Qianmo felt.
At night, the first snow of the winter fell in the capital.
A’Cai helped reapply Shu Nuan’s medicine, before appeasing her by saying, “The doctor said that this prescription is very effective. In a few days, Miss Shu will be able to remove the bandage.”
Shu Nuan was looking out of the window at the snowy night. She recalled the time
she’d across the mountains and rivers, from Yu Shuicheng to Southern Xinjiang all alone. It had been snowing like this, but it had been a different time.
However, after thinking for a while, Shu Nuan stopped recalling that time. She didn’t want to immerse herself in that kind of desperate atmosphere. If she wanted to forget these unpleasant things, she had to move on.
After the balm was reapplied, Shu Nuan picked out her notes from her bag and began writing about her experience in Yushuicheng. However, every time she wrote a word with her left hand, the words Sheng Qianmo had told her would ring in her mind. Every time those words sounded in her mind, her heart pounded with pain. Although she practiced with her left hand for a few days, her words were still crooked, and far from the beauty of before.
Despite this, Shu Nuan continued writing with a calm face. She had learned when she was young that she had to try and live no matter the difficulty of the situation. She had given her trust without hesitation, but now that trust had been trampled.
Shu Nuan planned to ask Li Yuan to help her hand over the article she was writing to Teacher Li. She didn’t know whether Teacher Li believed that she was a spy. But before leaving for Yushuisheng, Teacher Li had trusted her. Although she hadn’t done a good job as a student, she wished to do whatever she still could.
After some time, Shu Nuan was still not finished. She wrote a single page, but when she looked at the handwriting, she didn’t feel as proud. In the end, the paper was crumpled into a ball and clenched in her fist. She laid on the table with her eyes closed, taking short breaths. Tears glistened, but what she felt her eyes couldn’t convey.
In the middle of the night, Sheng Qianmo went back to the bedroom reeking of wine. He saw Nuan sleeping at the edge of the table. He went to pick her up and walked to the bed.
Shu Nuan woke up and looked into Sheng Qianmo’s drunken stare. He looked to her like a beast ready to pounce. Before she could react, he laid her down on the bed and pulled at her clothes. Her clothes slipped off her shoulder, revealing a youthful scenery.
Sheng Qianmo looked at her fair and delicate skin, before burying his head in her neck. His lips pressed against her skin. She felt the hot breath that carried the fragrance of wine.
He said, “Is it not broken?”
