Chapter 189: Deceiving Uncle Sheng (88)

Sheng Qianmo’s dark irises shrunk. He pinched her chin, bowed his head, and bit her lip.

He wanted to hurt her so she’d beg for mercy. Anything so she wouldn’t act so indifferent.

But Nuan let him bite her lips, let alone struggling.

In the end, Sheng Qianmo let go of her and stared at her swollen lips for a moment, before slamming the door on his way out.

“Give This Master a good answer. If you dare to deceive This Master…” Ningcheng Yuan said, but faltered upon glancing at Xuan Jiu, who was sitting at the table eating snacks with great relish. “You can’t eat!”

“Ask.”

Ningcheng looked up at him and asked, “How do you know Shu Nuan?”

Xuan Jiu halted and looked up at him. Ningcheng looked into the boy’s clear and bright eyes. He had a strange feeling in his heart, but he still tried to calm himself and patted the table. He switched to a somber tone and asked, “I asked you something?”

“When she was a child, she was expelled from the Royal Palace of the Qing Kingdom. I was the guard next to Her Highness.”

Ningcheng held out his hand and grabbed Xuan Jiu’s thin arm before laughing.

“Can you protect her with this?”

Xuan Jiu pulled back his hand and put on a cold stare.

Ningcheng Yuan was rebuffed by him, but he had to smile as he asked, “Why was Shu Nuan driven out of the palace?”

Xuan Jiu took a bite of a cake and murmured, “The emperor was superstitious and not clear on the details of the princess’ birth. Later, when the sons still at the capital fought, the emperor called back all of his children back from their fiefdoms.”

“Ah.” Ningcheng looked at the boy’s red lips thoughtfully and added casually, “It seems to be no surprise that the Qing was destroyed, seeing how it was so disorganized.”

The boy ignored his remark and continued to eat.

“But then again, you are obviously from the Nanchao Kingdom. You and that little girl conspired to murder a prince of the Sheng, and if not because of your allegiance to the Nanchao, then what?”

“… Who says I am loyal to the Nanchao?” Xuan Jiu said before smiling. “You grabbed whichever stranger you saw first and didn’t provide us the opportunity to explain. So you thought you were right. But I knew that sooner or later you would slacken and become curious for an answer.”

Ningcheng frowned and slammed his hand on the table.

“Shit, nonsense!”

But the boy still didn’t care about him and continued gorging.

Ningcheng snatched the pastry in his hand, stared at him, and said, “Give me a clear explanation.”

“My mother is from the Nanchao Kingdom,” Xuan Jiu said.

Ningcheng suddenly said, “What’s the relationship between the Nanchao Kingdom and Shu Nuan?”

Xuan Jiu did not intend to hide it from him, as he replied, “Ah’Che is from the Nanchao Kingdom.”

Ningcheng patted his thigh and continued, “Yes, this Ah’Che. Isn’t he a general of the Nanchao Kingdom? Why did Shu Nuan know him?”

Xuan Jiu froze for a moment and stared down at the plate, then he suddenly raised his head, staring at Ningcheng with wide eyes.

“Ah’Che is a general of the Nanchao? He… is still alive?”

“… Living well, too. He is a general!” Ningcheng muttered.

Xuan Jiu’s heart thumped as he stood up, and said, “I want to meet the princess!”

Ningcheng tensed up and said, “Sit down, now.”

Xuan Jiu glared at him. Knowing he couldn’t go out on his own, he sat back back down and said, “I’m thirsty.”

Ningcheng Yuan said nothing. He poured water for him and handed it over. “Then, what’s the relationship between Shu Nuan and him?”

Xuan Jiu was not in a hurry to answer his question. He took his time drinking from the glass, before saying, “Ah’Che was the best to the princess in this world.”
