Lady to Queen - Chapter 110
Chapter 110 – [Side Story] Ch. 2 Don’t You Love His Majesty?
“I am finally the queen,” Rosemond murmured in her room, her body was light as if she were walking on clouds. “Finally, finally!”
“Your Majesty, please calm down. His Majesty will be here soon,” Glara cautioned, her voice more teasing than usual. Rosemond nodded with a delighted look.
“Right. Right.”
Lucio’s visits had started to become increasingly rare, but since tonight was the first night she became queen, it was obvious he’d come to visit. Rosemond fidgeted with her fingers in anxiety. She was like a girl who had experienced a first love, and was still pure enough who knew nothing.
“Now I only need to give birth to a prince.”
“Yes, Your Majesty,” Glara said. “You can take your time. Now there is no one in the Mavinous Empire who can stop you. You are the queen of the country, and your child will soon be the next Mavinous Sun. What are you so worried about?”
“I’m not worried, Glara. It’s that I don’t trust in His Majesty,” Rosemond said with a cool smile. “I don’t trust in him. It’s foolish to believe in a man.” Her expression only turned more glacial. “Even more so if it’s a monarch.”
“But…don’t you love His Majesty?” asked Glara.
“Love?” Rosemond laughed. “Yes, Glara. I love him. His Majesty, who is now my husband, and will one day be the father of my child.”
“…”
“But Glara, I love what he gives me even more. Status, wealth, power! Things like that.”
“Yes…” Glara didn’t know how to react, so she simply looked at Rosemond. The lady-in-waiting suddenly felt sorry for the Emperor. He seemed to really like the Queen…
Glara soon blinked back into awareness when the voice of a maid spoke from outside.
“Your Majesty the Queen, His Majesty the Emperor has arrived.”
“Oh my!” Rosemond squealed cutely. “Let him in. You can’t leave an important person waiting outside.”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
The door opened, and Lucio came in just as Glara left tactfully. Rosemond was so happy to see Lucio in the room that she opened her arms wide and hugged him.
“Your Majesty,” she sang, and she traced his chest with her fingertips. “I missed you, Your Majesty.”
“Me too, Rose.”
“It was so amazing in the cathedral,” she said in a rapturous voice. “I wanted to kiss you right away with you in my arms.”
“I’m glad you didn’t.”
“Of course.”
It was normal for Lucio to hug her first, but today he seemed a little shy. Well, that didn’t matter. Never mind who initiated a hug first if the ending was the same.
She traced his nape with her lips, then soon began to kiss him passionately.
“Haaa…”
Rosemond let out a more obscene moan than usual. She pledged to have his seed in her womb tonight. She was already the highest-ranking woman in the Empire, but that was not enough. She had to cement her position, and for that, she had to have a prince. To be exact, a prince who would become the heir to the Empire.
“Your Majesty… to bed…”
Rosemond had to be the one to take the lead. Work and love was always done by her hands, and so she would be the one to lead tonight’s event. She skillfully unbuttoned Lucio’s clothes.
“I’m so desperate today…” Rosemond keened. “I’ve been burning up thinking about you all day.”
That was a lie. She wasn’t lost to lust, as she realized at an early age that her body could be used as a weapon. Well, that didn’t matter either way.
She whispered to him in the lowest, most seductive voice she could. “Please look forward to it, Your Majesty. I won’t let you go all night.”
*
“Mmmm…”
Rosemond stretched and opened her eyes. What time did she fall asleep last night? She went over her memories for a moment, but then soon gave up. It must have been almost dawn, but it was a useless thought.
Her hand slipped to her belly. A child might not have been made yet, but someday. This flat stomach will soon grow large with the child who would one day rule this great empire…!
Rosemond felt elated, as if she were already a mother. Since she tried so hard last night, there would be good news soon. She believed it firmly.
“Rose…?”
A voice spoke, one that she had heard countless times last night. Perhaps because she was thinking of a child, but she felt more proud at that voice. The man who would be the father of her child!
“Are you up, Your Majesty?” Rosemond replied.
“You woke up early,” Lucio noted.
“Only just now,” she said, and left a habitually left a small kiss on his thin eyelid. Lucio never disliked any of her kisses that he received in the morning.
“You look happy,” Lucio remarked in a rough morning voice.
“What woman could feel bad after a night like that?” Rosemond pressed her lips against Lucio’s bare chest. “And because of the dethronement, I feel even better.”
“How do you feel about being the queen now?”
“How do I feel?” Rosemond pondered for a moment before giving a clear answer. “I feel good.”
“Really?”
“It’s great.”
“It goes as far as great.”
“Ah. No, Your Majesty, I really feel quite thrilled right now.”
Of course she was. How much effort had she put into this position? For Rosemond, it was thrilling, and even shocking. To exaggerate a little bit.
Rosemond spoke with a beautiful smile. “I’m finally able to stand tall next to you.” Not as a hidden concubine, but as an honest truth. This wasn’t a happiness she could have known if she had held a high position all her life. This moment was handed to her the instant Queen Alisa began to mistreat the Crown Prince.
“Now no one can interfere with our love,” Rosemond said.
“Yes.”
“And I am the only one for you?”
“Sure,” he whispered in a warm voice. “Now I really only have you.”
Only her out of the rest of the world. Rosemond was confident that there would be no such perfect beauty as that. She was the only one he had. That meant that if she disappeared, he would also collapse.
“I love you, Your Majesty,” she whispered happily. Truly.
*
Rosemond was not a foolish woman. She had never been in charge of the affairs of the palace, but with the help of Duchess Ephreney, the household ran smoothly. In most cases, Rosemond was quite wise and intelligent.
The problem was personal. She had a childhood full of deprivation, and as such, cultivated a desire for power. However, material greed often went in tandem with power.
“Glara, look at this,” Rosemond said softly. “It’s a water drop diamond. Isn’t it beautiful?”
“Yes,” Glara agreed. “Where did you get it from?”
“It’s a jewel from across the sea. It’s very precious.” Rosemond hummed, then put down the diamond necklace in her hand and turned to Glara. “Come, I have to change my dress now.”
“What?” Glara said, perplexed. It had been less than five hours since Rosemond had changed into a dress. “But Your Majesty, didn’t you just change your dress less than five hours ago?”
“I did,” Rosemond said in a clear voice. “But I went out earlier.”
“It’s a waste to change again.”
“Are you talking back to me now?” Rosemond said in an irritated voice, and Glara reflexively shrank back. Not long ago, there was another lady-in-waiting who challenged her words and died. To be exact, the twelfth lady this month. Rosemond rationalized it, saying she had to enact discipline in her inner court, but no one knew that her actions were her merely venting her anger. No matter how close Glara was to Rosemond, she was not guaranteed safety from the villain-like character. She immediately withdrew her words.
“Not at all, Your Majesty. You are always right. By the way, does it make sense from the noblest woman in the Empire to wear a dress for five hours straight?”
“Now you’re starting to make sense.” Rosemond smiled and called for the other ladies-in-waiting. “Come on, will you all help me choose a dress to wear?”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
A moment later, Rosemond seemed to remember something, then called a maid. “Lorraine.”
The maid named Lorraine quickly approached. “Yes, Your Majesty.”
“The documents that Duchess Ephreney spoke about. How is it going?”
“Do you mean His Majesty’s birthday party?”
“Yes.”
“Don’t worry, Your Majesty,” Lorraine said with a smile. “Everything is going well.”
“Yes.” Only after Rosemond received the maid’s answer did she relax. Nevertheless, unease nipped at her, and she gave another order. “Get me the paperwork. Perhaps I should read it myself.”
“Of course, Your Majesty. Just a moment, please.”
Lorraine looked down from Rosemond with a smile on her face. She turned her back, and as soon as she was faced away from the queen, the smile had vanished.
