Chapter 28 – Head of the Household (2)

Su Jinbei did not expect that Zhou Zhengxian, the man who her mother, Zhao Xueyan, described as a vigorous and resolute leader who was capable of controlling the massive Zhou empire would be so mild-tempered and even seemed to be in poor health.

“Zhou Shiyun.”

“En.”

“Are your brother’s legs alright?” Judging by Zhou Shiyun’s tone just now, Zhou Zhengxian’s legs should originally have been normal.

Zhou Shiyun said, “His health is normally quite poor but he rarely sits in the wheelchair.” Speaking of this, he looked at the person leading the way, “Has this been going on for a while?”

“Young Master said that he was a little tired these days, so he took the wheelchair.”

“What did the doctor say.”

“This… I’m not too sure.”

Zhou Shiyun hummed and stopped talking.

Su Jinbei didn’t continue asking. For some reason, after entering the residence she felt conscious and turned quiet. Probably because of the place’s suffocating atmosphere? Su Jinbei looked at the dull Zhou Shiyun. For someone obsessed with Western medicine like Zhou Shiyun to come out of a traditional household like the Zhou family, it could be considered that he had very successfully escaped.

After arriving at the ‘Guan Yu Tai’, only Zhou Shiyun and Su Jinbei entered, and the now idle employees stayed outside.

‘Guan Yu Tai’ was built in the center of the lake, a chic and elegant wooden structure. A winding bridge stretches from the lake to the house.

As soon as she neared the door, Su Jinbei stretched out to tug at Zhou Shiyun’s sleeve. Zhou Shiyun stopped and looked back at her, “What’s wrong.”

“Your grandma, is she scary?” Su Jinbei asked tentatively.

Zhou Shiyun froze for a moment, a smile flashed in his eyes, “Are you afraid?”

“No, it’s not that I’m afraid, I’m just preparing myself.”

Zhou Shiyun gave her a meaningful look, “Even if Grandma was scary, you’re the granddaughter-in-law she personally chose, how do you think she’ll treat you.”

Su Jinbei considered his words. It was true, it was the Zhou family who insisted on having her enter the family, not the other way around.

“Let’s go in.”

Su Jinbei nodded, “Okay.”

Entering the interior area, Su Jinbei could see Old Madame Huo’s figure behind the table from afar.

Old Madame Huo was called Huo Wanjun. When she was young, she was a famous lady of the imperial capital. She was noble and reputable, however just because she lived in luxury did not mean she was a spoiled wayward young lady. At that time, she was not only beautiful but also talented.

Later on, she married into the Zhou family, but she did not stay idle in her position as the Young Mistress of the Zhou family. She helped her husband organize the entire Zhou family in an orderly manner and personally entered the kitchens. She was indeed a virtuous wife.

Su Jinbei followed Zhou Shiyun up, Huo Wanjun’s figure became clearer. As Su Jinbei expected, Huo Wanjun who was in her later years had not lost a single drop of calm and grace within her. Her innate temperament had only strengthened with age.

“Grandma.”

“Grandma.” Su Jinbei followed Zhou Shiyun.

Huo Wanjun put down the brush in her hand and looked up at them, “Jinbei is here.”

“Yes, grandma.” Su Jinbei looked back and did not flinch under Huo Wanjun’s trademark stern eyes. “It was impolite of Jinbei to only come to see you now. How is your health, Grandma?”

Su Jinbei was a good talker.

“I’m well. You, on the other hand, I heard that you were admitted to the hospital a while ago, are you okay now?” Huo Wanjun asked.

“I’m all better, I’ve let Grandma worry.”

Huo Wanjun nodded, her face still solemn and serious, “Let Shiyun take good care of you.”

“En.”

Huo Wanjun finished speaking to Su Jinbei and then looked at Zhou Shiyun, “Shiyun, how long have you not been back.”

Zhou Shiyun, “Half a year.”

“Half a year had you not said so I would’ve thought it’s been years.” Huo Wanjun said this sentence with dissatisfaction, but Su Jinbei could also hear a sense of indulgence towards Zhou Shiyun in her words.

And Zhou Shiyun who heard this turned very serious, “It’s really only been half a year, but it looks like Grandma’s memory has deteriorated a bit. Have you done your yearly medical exam yet?”

Su Jinbei quirked her lips.

Huo Wanjun glared at him, “You can rest assured that your grandma is in good health.”

Zhou Shiyun grunted, “Then, I’m relieved.”

“Don’t be relieved just yet, there are still a lot of things to be done,” Huo Wanjun replied, “When do you and Jinbei plan to have a baby.”

The dazed Su Jinbei’s face turned red, why are things so rushed?

Zhou Shiyun was very calm, “Grandma, we’re not married yet.”

“Hah, don’t just put out excuses. When I asked you before, you said you haven’t gotten engaged, now that you’re engaged, you’re saying you haven’t gotten married yet. If you get married, what excuse do you want to use next.”

Zhou Shiyun turned to Su Jinbei, “What excuse do you want to use.”

Su Jinbei: Ah, hey, don’t pass the question to me.

Huo Wanjun, “You still dare ask others for help?”

Su Jinbei coughed, “Um… Grandma, we are still young, we’re not in a rush.”

What do you mean, give birth, she was at the peak of her youth. And her graceful figure… She wouldn’t want to have a child now…

“Young people these days, sigh.”

Zhou Shiyun and Su Jinbei glanced at each other.

Su Jinbei raised her eyebrows. If she saw it correctly, was that satisfaction on Zhou Shiyun’s face? Was he satisfied that she diverted Old Madame Huo’s conversation?
