Intense Love - Chapter 27 - Head of the Household (1)
Chapter 27 – Head of the Household (1)
Zhou Shiyun was waiting outside. When Su Jinbei came out, he was looking at a medical report sent in by Lin Qingwei.
“Young Master.” Only when the butler on the side leaned over to remind him did Zhou Shiyun turn his head to look at her.
The waiting room was quiet and silent. The butler and the shop’s staff watched from the side as Su Jinbei approached slowly. The woman in front of them wore a high collar that was revealing yet not, showing her slim swan-like neck. There was a slit on both sides, revealing slender, pale legs as she swayed seductively.
At that moment, the pairing of a restricted and gentle cheongsam with the beautiful and exhilaratingly charming Su Jinbei gave off a balanced mix of bewitching and dignified airs. Every breath she took radiated her peerless grace and elegance.
Speaking of, both the designer and the makeup artist did their best, but Su Jinbei’s misleading figure and face made it difficult for them to dress her as a refined lady.
“I’ve never worn a cheongsam before, it’s not too shabby.” Su Jinbei said to Zhou Shiyun, “Are you satisfied?”
The women of the Zhou family often wore cheongsam, Zhou Shiyun was used to seeing it. But at this moment, he was somewhat bewildered. Conservative? He had miscalculated, something even more traditional would not be able to hide her bearing. Furthermore, such a cheongsam even more vividly showed her feminine beauty, thin waistline, and also her toned and voluptuous curves… Zhou Shiyun felt helpless, this woman was an enigma.
“Hello? Are you satisfied?” Su Jinbei asked again.
“It’s passable, let’s go.” Zhou Shiyun turned around and walked out of the door.
“Just passable?” Su Jinbei squinted slightly, turned to the butler on the side, “Hey, tell me, is it just passable?”
The butler who was suddenly asked froze and bowed his head in a respectful manner and did not look at Su Jinbei.
“Does it look bad?” Su Jinbei didn’t give up and asked again.
The butler, “… Miss Su looks very nice like this.”
Su Jinbei nodded, she patted the butler’s, “I knew it, your Young Master has a problem with his vision.”
Butler, “…”
Done with the outfit change, the car finally started driving towards the Zhou residence. After about half an hour, the car stopped.
“Master, Miss Su, we have arrived.” The butler respectfully said.
Su Jinbei looked out through the car window. She had always known that Zhou was eccentric, but she didn’t expect this level of eccentricity. A grand mansion with an air of great antiquity, looking exactly like the courtyard of an aristocratic family from the ancient times and had absolutely no sense of modernity.
Zhou Shiyun got out of the car first, and then he went around to her and opened the door for her.
The butler led the two of them in. After entering the door, a few people who looked to be domestic helpers respectfully addressed Zhou Shiyun, “Second Young Master.”
Zhou Shiyun gently nodded and did not speak.
After entering the door, a long wooden corridor appeared before them. Several people were walking through with light steps, tap, tap, tap, tap… Su Jinbei suddenly thought that maybe this was what the world was like one hundred years ago.
She looked around quietly, people in uniforms bustled along the corridor, stopping quietly when they saw them approach and continuing on their way once they had walked past.
After walking through the corridor, they arrived at the hall. At the very front of the hall was a big yellow rosewood trestle table. On top were a pile of paintings, calligraphy and name plaques. Next to it were the four treasures of study (writing brushes, ink sticks, paper and inkstones) and several rosewood shelves. The room gave a strong atmosphere akin to that of a family of literary reputation, totally unlike the Zhou family’s business acumen this generation. People who didn’t know might think this was a scholarly family’s residence.
As soon as they stepped into the hall, the whirring sound of wheels turning across the floor came from the corner. Following the sound was a man in a wheelchair who looked 30% similar to Zhou Shiyun, but he looked much gentler than Zhou Shiyun. He was gentle and refined, and gold-rimmed glasses rested on his face, “Shiyun, Jinbei.”
Su Jinbei was a little surprised. She hadn’t paid much attention to the Zhou family before, so she didn’t know who this new man in a wheelchair was. But, he called her Jinbei, like how the seniors would address her…
“Brother, why did you…” Zhou Shiyun stepped forward in two steps and squatted in front of him, reaching for his leg and touching it.
Brother? So it was Zhou Zhengxian.
“I’ve been feeling a little uncomfortable recently and I am too lazy to walk.” Zhou Zhengxian spoke and turned his attention to Su Jinbei, “Jinbei, it’s rare that you’re here, please don’t be polite. If there’s anything just inform the housekeepers.”
Su Jinbei nodded at him, “Mr. Zhou, nice to meet you.”
“You don’t have to be so polite, we’re all a family.” Zhou Zhengxian said, “You arrived really late, you must be tired.”
Su Jinbei shook her head, “Not at all.”
“Rest well once you get to your rooms.” Zhou Zhengxian smiled, “But Grandma knows you are back and definitely wants to see you.”
“We will see Grandma soon.” Su Jinbei said.
Zhou Zhengxian nodded and beckoned to the man who was pushing the wheelchair behind him, “Have someone take the Second Young Master and Miss Su to Grandma.”
The man replied with a ‘yes’ and called over two more people.
Zhou Zhengxian said, “Shiyun, Grandma has been copying scriptures at the newly built ‘Guan Yu Tai’1 [javascript:void(0)]Guan Yu Tai literally translates into fish-viewing platform. recently. I’m afraid you don’t know where it is, I’ll have someone bring you over.”
Zhou Shiyun stood up, “Okay.”
Su Jinbei and Zhou Shiyun walked in the other direction. Su Jinbei looked back inadvertently at Zhou Zhengxian. He was sitting in a wheelchair and kept his eyes in their direction.
