Chapter 120

Translator and Editor: Effe and Nabi

As Iellie smiled with blushing cheeks, Zachary spoke again without raising an eyebrow.

“I mean it.”

“Umm, I didn’t mean I didn’t believe you.”

She answered skillfully. The fresh air from the sea came rushing in like waves. Feeling like a fish, she inhaled the sea breeze with a salty smell deep into her chest. The fresh air that filled her chest was just pleasing.

Iellie, who had been wandering around watching the festival, stopped in place.

“Zachary, come here. It’s a puppet show!”

A puppet show was in full swing at the place where she stopped.

“That doll looks like an Asha fairy.”

As she gazed at the doll, her eyes widened in awe.

The exquisite craftsmanship of the doll, featuring pink hair and green eyes, unmistakably depicted Asha, the spring fairy. Alongside her was a charming young doll with silver hair and blue eyes, likely representing the silver dragon.

“I think it’s the story of the fairy Asha and the silver dragon?”

“I know. It’s the first time I’ve seen a puppet show like this.”

Zachary glanced slightly.

The Ducal couple watched the puppet show with keen interest. While the storyline portrayed a sweet and familiar love story, its uniqueness stemmed from the two main characters being Asha fairy and the silver dragon.

It differed from the usual contents of the founding legend, making it all the more special.

“In the founding legend, it is often said that the Asha fairy chose the gray knight of the imperial family.”

“Still, in this play, did the Asha fairy choose the silver dragon?”

“Honestly, the founding legend is biased. How do you know who the Asha fairy decided to be with?”

Iellie shrugged her shoulders.

Apparently, since it was the most famous legend in the empire, it seemed that there were also various transformed stories. As expected, common love stories were common because they were so popular.

“Come to think of it, those dolls look pretty cute.”

“Do you want it?”

“No, I didn’t mean to ask you to get it.”

Her eyes narrowed.

The Asha fairy, its pink hair dancing in the arms of the silver dragon, exuded a lovable charm that captivated the audience, even though it was just a puppet.

As the show progressed, more and more people, including the Ducal couple, gathered to watch. By the end of the performance, a sizable crowd had formed, all mesmerized by the captivating puppet show.

“Thank you so much for watching everyone!”

The Duchess did not leave the play until the puppet show was over.

After the play, they joyfully threw a silver coin into the passed hat. The man who performed the puppet show bowed deeply to the audience.

“I am hungry.”

After watching the puppet show, her stomach growled. Zachary noticed it quickly and asked her.

“Shall we go to a stall? Just to see if the food you developed is selling well.”

Iellie nodded at the suggestion. She actually wanted to see if it was selling out, just like what Peter had told her, so the two of them walked towards the stall, holding on to their hungry stomachs.

“A cup of fried seafood for only two cells!”

“We also have spicy stew!”

Lively voices came. People were walking around with paper cups full of fried food in their hands. It was also common to see people eating stew cooked in small stalls.

‘Honestly, that’s not a stew. It’s more like spicy soup…’

She laughed awkwardly at the thought. Come to think of it, pouring a glass of soju into a spicy soup was the best. Maybe she should have a drink with Zachary later?

Thinking so, she first bought fried squid.

“Do you want to eat it?”

“Of course.”

Zachary accepted the crispy fried shrimp from Iellie. The savory taste of oil, the batter, and the tang of the seafood harmonized well, and the chewy texture was good.

“This is really good.”

“Right? After all, fried food needs to be coated with batter.”

Iellie was proud as she tightened her shoulders.

The savory smell tickled the tip of her nose. In the distance, there was a stall selling buttered skewers of peeled shrimp. The Ducal couple bought two skewers of shrimp before each bit into their mouths.

This time, they started to glance around the stalls.

“Oh, that’s pretty.”

“Then buy it.”

“Hey, buying just because it’s pretty isn’t rational consumption.”

Iellie, who was looking at the jewelry, narrowed her eyes. Zachary tapped her on the shoulder.

“The Duchess of Hessenweitz doesn’t have to think about rational consumption.”

“Is that so?”

“Of course.”

Of course, Zachary, who said it strongly, suddenly turned away. There was something that caught his eye.

“Zachary?”

He strode towards a stall.

Atop the wooden stall adorned with an array of charming trinkets, there rested a unique ornament shaped like an Asha flower, crafted from delicate pink decorative crystals. It served as a decorative pin meant to embellish a cravat.

‘It’s the first time I’ve seen him show interest in his stuff.’

Iellie stuck her head out and looked at Zachary, then tilted her head.

“Do you like this?”

Iellie asked, pointing to the decorative pin that now lay on the tip of his outstretched finger.

The ornament had a somewhat rustic appearance, fitting for an item sold at a festival. The petals, adorned with modest-quality pink crystals, bore an asymmetrical design. While the craftsmanship didn’t seem to be exceptionally refined, there was an endearing charm in its rough and heartfelt shape.

“No, just…”

Zachary tried to take his gaze away. Iellie, who narrowed her eyes, quickly picked up the decorative pin.

“The Duke of Hessenweitz doesn’t have to think about rational consumption.”

Having purchased the decorative pin, she gave it to him.

“Thank you.”

Receiving the pin, her husband smiled softly. The pink crystal petals reflected the light for a moment and shone.

“But why are you interested in this stuff all of a sudden?”

“It’s just.”

‘…It’s because it resembles you.’

Zachary swallowed the answer that was about to come out of him. It was all right, pretending to be okay but… in fact, it was so trivial. The sunlight gliding on the surface of the petals dazzles his eyes.

“Zachary.”

While staring at Zachary, she suddenly spoke.

“Even if I’m not by your side.”

“What do you mean?”

Zachary looked very serious.

‘Ugh, he couldn’t even assume an if.’

At the thought, Iellie’s face became sullen.

“I said if, if.”

Iellie jokingly replied. She smiled as she clasped his hand and squeezed her pin.

“It will protect you instead of me.”

“…Len.”

“So cherish it, okay?”

Iellie glanced up at him with a smile.

After looking at it for a moment, Zachary wrapped the pin in a handkerchief and carefully tucked it before turning his gaze turned to her as he held his breath.

‘My Iellie.’

In his achromatic world, there stood a radiant figure, exuding beauty in solitude. Unaware of the profound impact she had on him, she became the one who restored light and color to his life. Her gaze, so sincere and direct, had the power to make his heart race every time it embraced him.

“…I’m so glad you’re here by my side.”

“That’s a relief, because I’m happy to be by your side.”

She responded kindly.

The Duke and Duchess blended into the festival scene and became a part of it.

The festival culminated in a ceremony to offer prayers for a bountiful catch. It commenced with the resonating sound of a longhorn and a grand flag adorned with golden tassels gracefully fluttered in the picturesque sunset sky.

“This ceremony is the end of the festival.”

“Really?”

“Yes. After that, they play music and send their prayers in it.”

As Iellie observed the ceremony with a curious gaze, a priest, holding a golden tassel, ascended the ornate altar. He delivered a congratulatory message, elegantly waved the decorative stand, and performed a captivating dance.

While the ornaments swayed and emitted a harmonious melody, the entire spectacle exuded a profound sense of solemnity and grandeur.

“…That’s cool.”

When Iellie whispered to him in a small voice, Zachary gazed at her from the side.

‘Len. You are so close… yet it feels breathtakingly distant.’
