How We Love - Volume 2 Chapter 4
Chapter 4 – Barrister Yi
In his eyes, Xu Zhifei was the person behind his achievements today. Had she not helped him every time, paying for his training, encouraging him to participate in the competition, he would still be a little apprentice whose task was to hold the hairdryer and blow-dry. She gave him a new lease on life, so whenever she came, he would immediately receive her. He would never tell her to “get in line and make an appointment.”
After he started receiving more and more customers, “working for others” gradually faded from Mu Xiaonian’s plans for his future. He wanted to do better, and even better, so that he could close the distance between them and then some.
He quit his job as the head stylist and opened his own salon. Because he had already had a stable customer base, his salon had been successful since its opening. He thought it wouldn’t take too long for him to be able to buy his own house.
His business was on track and he had new goals for his own life too. Everything seemed to be flowing smoothly, except for Xu Zhifei. Mu Xiaonian realized that Xu Zhifei didn’t seem to be very happy recently. He asked her what was up, she only said it was something about her family and that it was a long story.
Not long after, a handsome man drove to the salon bringing a beautiful lady with him to get her hair done. The lady had requested for Mu Xiaonian and said that she had already asked someone to make an appointment in her name. The salon’s head stylist whispered to Mu Xiaonian, telling him that the lady was a new starlet and her manager had come before to get her hair done.
Mu Xiaonian washed his hands and came out to receive his customer. He asked what kind of hairstyle the lady wanted. The pretty lady turned to ask her male companion, “Yi Hua, what hairstyle do you think suits me?”
Mu Xiaonian’s hand that was holding the comb trembled.
“You look pretty with any hairstyle.” The man finished talking and went outside to take a call.
Mu Xiaonian looked at the man’s silhouette and asked the pretty lady casually, “Is he a lawyer?”
The lady immediately smiled proudly, “That’s right! You recognize him? He’s been on a lot of legal programs on TV!”
Mu Xiaonian stood up immediately. He didn’t spare a glance at her and called his assistant over coldly, “My stomach hurts. I’m nauseous. I can’t do it. You should take over.”
The lady’s face immediately darkened. “Why are you doing this? I’ve painstakingly made an appointment with you and here you are, saying your stomach hurts and you won’t do it anymore. Where is your sense of professionalism? And you clearly don’t look like you have a stomach ache, okay? May I ask what I did wrong to offend you?”
Yi Hua came in after finishing his call and happened to hear the lady complain unhappily. He appeased the lady and stepped up to ask Mu Xiaonian, “Boss Mu, right? I hope you know that I’m a lawyer. If you insist on treating your customers in such an irresponsible manner, I can count one hundred different ways I can sue you and take you down.”
Mu Xiaonian smiled, “Take me down? On what grounds? Does the law say people can’t have stomachaches?” He finished talking, turned around and walked away, his silhouette clean and handsome. The angry starlet and Barrister Yi slammed the door and walked out.

When Xu Zhifei went to the salon to get her hair done again, Mu Xiaonian tentatively asked her, “Can you show me a picture of your boyfriend?”
Xu Zhifei smiled, “What will you do with it?”
Mu Xiaonian quickly made up an excuse, “I bragged to a friend in my hometown about knowing a barrister. I have to see what this barrister looks like first so I won’t give myself away next time we talk about it.”
Xu Zhifei smiled and picked up her phone, looked for the photos and showed them to him.
Looking at the couple selfie on the screen, Mu Xiaonian’s heart fell to his stomach. There was no possibility that it was just someone of the same name anymore. The “Yi Hua” that was with the starlet that day was indeed Xu Zhifei’s boyfriend, Yi Hua.
Mu Xiaonian had imagined countless times before, how good it would be if Xu Zhifei didn’t have a boyfriend, or how good it would be if her boyfriend ran away with another woman, then he would have a chance. But now that it really happened, he couldn’t bring himself to feel happy at all. He could care less to think about whether he now had a chance, he was only worried about how unbearably pained Xu Zhifei would be once she found out the truth.
