How We Love - Volume 2 Chapter 2

Chapter 2 – White Rabbit Candy 

She rose from the chair, seemed to have thought of something and turned her head to ask, “Will the stylist and manager scold you after I leave?” 

Mu Xiaonian faced that sparkling pair of eyes and his heart skipped a beat, “I-I think so…” 

Xu Zhifei quickly patted him on the shoulder, “Don’t be scared, leave it to me!” 

She walked to the exit. As she was about to leave, she suddenly turned around and pointed in Mu Xiaonian’s direction and yelled, “Your name’s Mu Xiaonian, right? You’re my dedicated stylist now, okay? I’ll come to you next time!” She turned around and told the manager who was enthusiastically escorting her out, “This young man has great craftsmanship. Manager, you should train him well!” 

Xu Zhifei left, leaving Mu Xiaonian as the focus of everyone in the store. The manager came over and praised him, “You’re someone to watch out for, I see, winning the favor of the heiress of one of the city’s big three conglomerate families in one go! His pale skin was set aflame once more. That fire burned and burned all the way to his heart.

Since then, whenever Xu Zhifei came to the salon, she only asked for Mu Xiaonian.
 

Fortunately, Xu Zhifei’s hair was silky straight. She would also usually only come for a wash and blow-dry. She had no complicated requests and Mu Xiaonian had it under control. But he only found out afterwards that Xu Zhifei actually loved styling her hair. He thought that maybe she didn’t want to make things hard for him. 

With deep gratitude, Mu Xiaonian worked hard on his craft. He wanted Xu Zhifei’s hair to bloom into all kinds of beauty under his hands. However, his first attempt failed. He had tried to give Xu Zhifei trendy Goddess curls but they ended up looking hideous, both sides had no symmetry whatsoever. He was supremely regretful and begged for her forgiveness. Xu Zhifei only smiled and teased him, “I guess you have no choice but to pledge your body to me and atone for your sins!” Heat instantly travelled up his face. 

He practiced diligently in order to not mess Xu Zhifei’s hair up under his care anymore. Gradually, his efforts paid off. His craftsmanship slowly improved, he was promoted from an apprentice to a third-tier stylist. He was now able to style Xu Zhifei’s hair better and better. He would follow fashion bloggers online and keep note when they had any new hairstyling recommendations. He would immediately earnestly learn it and carefully apply it on Xu Zhifei when she came. 

He and Xu Zhifei’s conversations flowed smoother, he would no longer blush after a few sentences, except for when she teased him to pledge his body to her. 

But what was there to pledge? He had known early on from chatting with her that she already had a boyfriend – a big brother of the same status, a bright young man called Yi Hua. From the way a beautiful smile would bloom whenever she talked about her boyfriend, she must really like him. However, outside of that, she also seemed to be troubled by a lot of things because this big brother was a barrister. He was always very busy and, especially recently, would have no time to accompany her. 

On Xu Zhifei’s birthday, she came to the store and told Mu Xiaonian to go all out. Mu Xiaonian put down the comb and looked at the sweetly smiling Xu Zhifei from the mirror. He was struck with panic for some reason. 

She was a girl who was born to smile, her smile was sweet and heartwarming. Mu Xiaonian secretly thought that if he was her boyfriend, he would make sure she would never have any reason to frown. He watched Xu Zhifei pull out a few toffees from her pocket. She turned to hand the toffees to him.
 

“It’s my birthday today, here’s some candy!” 

He looked down at the big white rabbit with protruding teeth on the candy wrapper. 

“I treat my good friends to White Rabbit Candy every birthday! Because it’s the first gift my dad ever gave me for my birthday! You have to eat it!” 

Mu Xiaonian laughed, not wanting to let Xu Zhifei detect how much it meant to him, and carefully put the candy in his pocket. 

She said she treated her “good friends” candy on her birthday. He was secretly happy because she had put him in the “good friend” category. 

Because of his arduous efforts and intelligence, Mu Xiaonian was quickly promoted from a third-tier stylist to a second-tier stylist.
