Chapter 28

The day of the tournament of the jousting contest.

The weather was good, but the snow was mixed with mud everywhere, making the scenery bleak.

Even though it was just a preliminary round, a large number of nobles, sitting in the highest seats were gathered in a dignified manner.

Sometimes they clicked their tongues and looked down at the screaming commoners, whispering to each other.

A gentleman in immaculate armor with a pointy hat, and with a sharp spear probably brought from a foreign country, talked to his wife.

“Look over there. It’s the Duchess of Hilcheon.”

The lady who was yawning and waiting for the preliminary round to begin looked at Juliana and said, pouting.

“She’s beautiful, beautiful. Lots of men will get wrapped around her finger when she looks so fresh.”

The gentleman said excitedly whether he didn’t notice his wife’s derisive remarks.

“Today too, there’s going to be a lot of articles about the knights who will offer roses to the Duchess.”

The lady, who had lost patience with her husband’s lack of notice, answered.

“You risk your life knowing that you’re only receiving roses. It’s stupid.”

She said to the humming gentleman who took off his hat because of the weather.

“I heard that this time the Duke also participates in this stupid thing.”

The noble lady laughed at him while putting the spaulder on his shoulder.

“Oh, my God. Is the Duke finally participating? The Duke is probably willing to fight only to protect his wife. The ancestors of Duke Hilcheon must be turning in their graves right now.”

“It’s old news, but let’s not forget that the current Duke was born as an illegitimate child.”

The gentleman chuckled. The couple were giggling and then nodded to Juliana, pretending to be friendly as she passed them by.

Juliana, dressed in splendor as if to show off her radiant beauty even under the cloudy sky, nodded gloomily.

‘You guys….. I can hear you.’

But she didn’t want to respond, so she didn’t say anything, and Juliana headed for the highest seats in the distance.

Tickets for the highest seats were hard to get for several months, but yesterday they were easily obtained after spending a lot of money.

Under the guidance of the guide, Juliana sat down somberly.

The stadium pierced the sky with the heat of the commoners, who were sitting at the lowest level, where rain and snow mixed with the scattered debris.

Unlike the commoners, the gentle-looking nobles were feigning tranquility, gazing at each other, repeatedly saying hello and whispering.

‘It’s all just acting.’

Juliana looked down coldly at the nobles and unfolded her fan. There was no choice but to hide her restless expression.

Juliana of the past has been fed up with the tradition of aristocrats, who dreamed of freedom and enjoyed extramarital affairs, even though they always agreed to political marriages.

‘Oh, yeah. It was really my world until I remembered my past life.’

Juliana sighed as she became aware of her past and present life.

It would be great if she could still look down on those who were secretly jealous of her freedom.

Without thinking.

However, Juliana Auburn was now different from the past. She knew shame, she reflected on her life as an extra, and she also knew that she was going to die before she could even get into the race. So she couldn’t help but cringe naturally.

Juliana looked up at the sky with gloomy eyes. The dark, dirty-colored clouds were thick as if the snow were about to start falling at any moment.

It was a very ominous color.
