Chapter 62: Are You Really My Dad? (3)

“Thank you, Uncle.”

After the two left, Mr. Huo disapprovingly said, “I am not protecting her unconditionally, but Xiaoxiao is still young. Don’t be so strict with her.”

“Aren’t you protecting her unconditionally?” Huo Suicheng dusted away the sand in his hair casually. “You are just spoiling her. Have you ever spoiled me when I was young?”

Old master Huo’s expression stagnated. “This is different.”

“Why is it different?”

“Xiaoxiao is still young, after all.”

“She’s not that young. She could come up with this kind of horrible idea, and you still treat her as an ordinary child?”

“Then I’ll talk to you in advance. Don’t hit her.”

“Don’t worry, I have a sense of measure.”

Gradually, twilight descended. At the place where the sea and the sky met, the orange sunset became more and more brilliant, slowly sinking into the horizon. It made way for a bright moon in the sky.

Huo Xiaoxiao curled up in her nest, feeling sorry for the little bag she had lost.

She was full of regrets right now.

She wouldn’t have tied the rope around her father’s legs if she’d known it would lead to such a terrible outcome.

She couldn’t let things go on like this.

Her father would always be fine while she would suffer.

Initially, the relationship between the father and daughter was warm and sweet. However, when Old Master Huo pretended to be sick and lied to Huo Suicheng once, it got out of control.

Nonetheless, she had done everything she had to do, even raising the white flag, but Huo Suicheng refused to let her go.

Huo Xiaoxiao sighed faintly.

Being an adult did not help either.

It was a headache to come up with a countermeasure due to her lack of experience in dealing with her father in her previous life.

Huo Xiaoxiao climbed out of bed and moved her small stool to reach the tablet on the table.

After successfully unlocking it, she started searching for the following topics in the search bar.

“How should a daughter communicate with her father?”

“What if the father doesn’t understand the daughter?”

“How to improve the relationship between a father and daughter?”

“What if the father doesn’t love his daughter?”

Huo Xiaoxiao looked at a few search results and came to a few conclusions: “1. Act like a baby. 2. Show love to your father. 3. Rely on your father. 4. Communicate with your father more often.”

She seemed to have understood something.

She needed to express her love for her father.

Raising a white flag or something like that was not love.

She had to think of a way.

Looking around, she finally locked her eyes on the crayons on the table.

She put aside the tablet, climbed onto the stool, unfolded the drawing paper on the table, and picked up crayons to paint.

She hadn’t learned to draw, so she couldn’t even draw a straight line.

But it didn’t matter. As a child, she couldn’t draw straight anyway.

So, after ten long minutes, a painting of stick figures was completed. Huo Xiaoxiao didn’t know how to describe it… a stick figure father led a stick figure daughter to walk by the sea.

To show that this slightly taller stick figure was her father, she painted some thick hair on her father’s head.

To please her father with a painting, Huo Xiaoxiao believed she would succeed.

Daughters were father’s little cotton-padded jackets. When he saw his daughter’s picture of father and daughter holding hands at the seaside, his fatherly heart might become warm and particularly touched.

She could almost imagine how her father would praise her when he received the painting.

Huo Xiaoxiao admired her masterpiece.

‘…It’s ugly.’

Sure enough, she had no talent for painting.

‘Forget it, it’s not for me anyway.’

She climbed down from the stool and took this elaborate painting to the door of Huo Suicheng’s room.

The room’s door was half-closed, leaving a gap. Huo Suicheng’s voice could be faintly heard from inside.

She became hesitant at the door. Her dad looked quite angry today. What if he threw her out?

After a while, she finally made up her mind to open the door, walked into the room slowly, and raised the painting in her hand to him.

Huo Suicheng had already noticed Huo Xiaoxiao at the door and wanted to know what tricks the kid was playing. He waited for a while before she came in and handed him a picture.

“Did you draw it?”

Huo Xiaoxiao nodded.

“This painting…” Huo Suicheng looked at his daughter’s drawing and furrowed his eyebrows.

The sea, the sun, the beach, the stick figures.

It was praise-worthy that her daughter could draw such a picture when she was only one and a half years old.

But…

Huo Suicheng didn’t want to admit that this painting was about him.

“It’s a good painting, but this one, I guess, is you and grandpa?”

Huo Xiaoxiao pointed to the thick hair on the adult’s head in the painting. “This is Dad!”

“…Grandpa is so good to you. Why don’t you draw Grandpa? You were raised by Grandpa, and Grandpa will be sad when he knows.”

Huo Suicheng hugged her, pulled out an eraser from the desk, wiped off some of the thick hair on the adult’s head in the painting, and stuffed the paper into Huo Xiaoxiao’s hand. “Go and show it to Grandpa. You can’t make Grandpa sad, okay?”

“???”

‘What do you mean?’

‘You don’t like it?’

Huo Xiaoxiao’s fantasy collapsed.

‘I even did a crayon painting for you. Do you still dislike me?’

‘Not touched a bit?’

‘Are you really my dad?’
